WHAT DEFINITION IS

We are an independent gym in Tonbridge. Not a chain, not a franchise. Over 1,000 members, open 24 hours.

We exist to give ordinary people access to serious strength training. Not just the people who already look like they belong in a gym. The equipment is proper, the space is built for lifting, and anybody willing to work hard is welcome in it.

Three things hold that up, and we do not compromise on any of them:

• Equipment that is meticulously maintained and serviced
• Facilities that are clinically clean. Gym floor, changing rooms, showers, toilets
• A culture where people support each other and nobody feels out of place

THE ONE STANDARD THAT MATTERS MOST

Every member leaves feeling seen, heard and greeted.

Every time. By everyone. If a member walks past you and thinks you did not notice them, that is a failure, however busy the shift was.

That standard is the job. Everything below is how it gets delivered.

WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY DO

• Lead and develop the team — clear targets, regular feedback, and the honest conversations when they are needed
• Drive membership sales — enquiry handling, follow-up, tours and conversion. There is a significant amount of untapped opportunity here
• Improve retention — onboarding, member engagement, and getting to people before they drift
• Hold the standard — cleanliness, equipment checks, presentation, health and safety. Every single day, without being asked
• Own the numbers — sales, membership movement, revenue and costs, and use them to decide what gets attention
• Get out into Tonbridge — local relationships, partnerships and outreach that bring people through the door
• Work directly with the owner — no head office, no regional layer. Your ideas get tested quickly

A real part of this job is cleaning, equipment checks and facility upkeep. We are telling you that upfront, because it is how the standard gets kept, and because people who think it is beneath them do not last here.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You might already run a club. You might be an assistant manager ready to step up. We care more about how you work than the title you currently hold.

• You turn up on time — usually early, and you finish what you start
• You spot things — a fault, a member struggling, a job that needs doing. You deal with it without being asked
• You own your mistakes — plainly, without a list of reasons why it was not really your fault
• You can hold people to a standard — including when it is awkward, and including when you like them
• You read people well — you can tell when someone new is nervous, and you do something about it
• You can show us you have moved numbers — sales, retention, conversion. Real figures from something you ran
• You train, or you are working on yourself somehow — you do not need to be competing. But this is a gym, and it helps if you understand why that matters

WHERE THIS GOES

This role is for Tonbridge. That is the job we are hiring for and that is where your focus will be.

We do have further sites planned. Someone who makes Tonbridge work will be in the room for what comes next. We are not promising that on day one, and you should not take this job on the strength of it, but we would rather be straight about the direction than pretend there is not one.

We promote from within where we can. We are not looking for someone passing through.

This is an independent business, so there is no head office to lean on and no playbook handed to you. Some of it you will build yourself.

In return you get real ownership, direct access to the owner, and the chance to put your name on something rather than run someone else’s system.
