About Eastern DataComm

Eastern DataComm provides electronic security, audiovisual, theatrical lighting, network infrastructure, communications, and emergency notification solutions. We serve schools, municipalities, higher education institutions, and commercial customers across multiple regions.

Position Overview

The General Manager will lead the Farmingdale office with accountability for sales growth, project delivery, customer relationships, team performance, and branch profitability. This hands-on leader will build new business, develop the local team, and ensure projects and service work are completed efficiently, safely, and to customer expectations.

Working with the CEO, VP of Sales, and VP of Operations, the General Manager will connect sales commitments with delivery capacity, strengthen accountability, and grow Eastern DataComm’s presence across Long Island and the New York metropolitan market.

Sales Growth and Customer Relationships

·      Own the branch growth plan, including bookings, revenue, gross profit, and recurring service revenue targets.

·      Coach the Farmingdale sales team, establish weekly activity and pipeline reviews, and hold team members accountable for prospecting, proposals, follow-up, and closing business.

·      Develop new opportunities through direct business development, customer meetings, industry relationships, and strategic partners; personally support major pursuits and key accounts.

·      Balance public bid opportunities with proactive relationship selling and commercial business development, coordinating closely with the dedicated bid sales resource.

·      Build relationships with key decision makers at the branch’s largest customers and ensure continuity through leadership and account transitions.

·      Expand existing accounts through cross-selling security, audiovisual, theatrical lighting, communications, network, and service solutions.

Operations and Project Delivery

·      Lead daily branch coordination across sales, estimating, project management, field installation, and service, in partnership with company functional leaders.

·      Review scope, labor estimates, equipment requirements, delivery schedules, and project risks before commitments are made to customers.

·      Ensure clear sales-to-operations handoffs, realistic staffing plans, timely material availability, and consistent customer communication.

·      Monitor booked versus delivered margins, labor utilization, project milestones, change orders, and closeout; address issues early.

·      Maintain quality, safety, documentation, and required licensing and customer access processes in coordination with designated company personnel.

Financial Performance and Accountability

·      Manage the branch operating plan and budget, controlling expenses and improving gross profit and operating profitability.

·      Review branch results with leadership and provide accurate forecasts, explanations of variances, and corrective action plans.

·      Partner with Finance to support timely billing, collection of outstanding receivables, and resolution of customer disputes.

·      Maintain accurate opportunity, project, and service records in company systems and enforce pricing and approval requirements.

People and Leadership

·      Build a culture of ownership, responsiveness, collaboration, and customer service across the Farmingdale office.

·      Set clear roles, performance expectations, and operating routines; provide regular coaching and address performance concerns promptly.

·      Identify staffing needs and help recruit, onboard, and develop sales, project, technical, and administrative talent with functional leaders.

·      Partner across regional offices to share resources, technical expertise, customer opportunities, and effective operating practices.

Qualifications

·      Progressive leadership experience in a systems integration, electronic security, audiovisual, communications, or related technical services business; branch or general management experience strongly preferred.

·      Demonstrated success growing sales and improving financial performance, with experience managing a budget or profit and loss statement.

·      Experience leading both sales and project or service delivery teams, including coaching salespeople and improving execution.

·      Working knowledge of project estimating, labor planning, gross margins, change orders, and service agreements.

·      Experience with public sector bids and commercial customers; established Long Island and New York market relationships preferred.

·      Strong customer communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and team leadership skills, with proficiency in CRM and project or service management systems.

·      Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.

How Success Will Be Measured

·      Bookings, revenue, gross profit, and branch operating profitability against plan.

·      New customer growth, pipeline quality, account expansion, and recurring service revenue.

·      Project completion, booked versus delivered margins, labor utilization, and customer satisfaction.

·      Billing timeliness, receivables follow-through, employee development, and team accountability.

Work Expectations

This position requires a regular presence in the Farmingdale office and travel to customer sites, project locations, and company offices as business needs require.
