What they need

The General Manager leads Enable Resourcing, one of the five companies that make up the Enable Group. We describe the group as a Team of Teams: each business has its own goals, but we work together and use the strength of the group to deliver more than any one company could alone.

This is a commercially led general management role. The main focus is growing Enable Resourcing through new clients, deeper relationships with existing clients and more framework opportunity. The post holder will be the face of Enable Resourcing in the market and will spend a large part of their time with clients, at industry events and building the pipeline.

The General Manager is also fully accountable for running the business. That includes the P&L, safe and compliant labour supply, service to other Enable companies, and leading and developing the team. The role is part of the Enable Leadership Team and helps shape and protect the Enable culture.

We need a commercially led General Manager who will grow Enable Resourcing. The person must be a proven seller and relationship builder first: someone who wins clients, frameworks and PSL places and is comfortable being the face of the business. They must also be a proven leader who can run the whole business, including the P&L, compliance and delivery, through a capable team. The business currently turns over roughly £8m-£10m a year and places up to 400 operatives a week across rail, civils, utilities, energy and construction.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development and Sales

  • Own and deliver the sales plan for Enable Resourcing, including targets for revenue, gross margin and new accounts.
  • Personally win new clients across rail, civils, utilities, power, highways and construction, both blue-collar and white-collar.
  • Identify, pursue and win framework places, approved supplier list (PSL) positions and tenders. Lead bid strategy and pricing, and review submissions before they are issued.

Client Relationship Management

  • Lead relationships with key accounts at senior level. Hold regular account reviews covering performance, KPIs and future needs.
  • Set up account plans and account tiering, and make sure the Account Managers and Client Relationship Manager deliver against them.
  • Agree commercial terms, rate cards and terms of business, and approve any departure from standard terms

Operational Delivery

  • Remain accountable for the safe, compliant and reliable supply of labour into safety-critical environments.
  • Make sure the Labour Manager and delivery team mobilise, manage and retain workers in line with client requirements and service levels.
  • Maintain RISQS, ISO and client accreditations, and make sure all workers meet right-to-work, competence, fatigue and Sentinel requirements.

Financial Performance

  • Hold full P&L accountability for Enable Resourcing.
  • With support from the CEO, COO and CFO, prepare and maintain a 3-year business plan, an annual budget and KPIs, and report performance to the Enable Board.

Leadership and People

  • Lead, motivate and develop the Enable Resourcing team, building a high-performing, sales-focused culture with clear targets and regular feedback.
  • Design an organisation structure that supports the business plan, and recruit and develop talent to grow with it.
  • Coach Account Managers and consultants in consultative selling, account planning and qualifying opportunities.

Experience required

  • More than 8 years in recruitment, labour supply or a related services business, including a proven record in business development and sales.
  • Proven leadership experience, having led a team of comparable size (essential).
  • Track record of winning and growing accounts, frameworks or PSL positions, with evidence of revenue and margin growth (essential).
  • Experience of managing senior client relationships and negotiating commercial terms (essential).
  • Experience of supplying people into safety-critical industries such as rail, civils, utilities or power (essential).
  • Experience of P&L ownership or budget accountability (highly desirable).

Qualifications

  • A degree or professional qualification in business, sales or management is desirable.
  • A recognised leadership or people management qualification (for example CMI or ILM) is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong user of CRM systems for managing pipeline and accounts (essential). Experience of recruitment ATS platforms is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Able to read and understand company accounts (profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow) and to build pricing and margin models.

Additional Skills

  • Confident, credible communicator who builds rapport quickly with clients at all levels.
  • Commercially sharp, with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Self-motivated and target-driven, with the drive to open doors and close deals.
  • Works well with other teams across the group, including site-based project teams.
  • Full UK driving licence. Travel to clients and sites is required, sometimes outside normal working hours.

Desirable Criteria

  • P&L ownership of a recruitment branch, division or business (£5m+ turnover).
  • Both blue-collar (temporary labour) and white-collar (permanent or contract) recruitment experience.
  • Experience in a group or multi-company environment, including supplying labour internally to a sister company.
  • Recognised leadership qualification (CMI or ILM) or a business degree.
  • Recruitment ATS experience.
  • Existing network in rail, utilities or highways that can be brought to Enable.
