General Manager - Construction

Due to a significant pipeline of a wide variety of large scale builds, this well known privately owned Developer is looking for a General Manager -  Construction. The business has grown fast enough that construction now needs someone who owns it properly, builds the team around it and answers for the programme end to end.

About the company

A privately owned New Zealand property development and construction group working across retail, healthcare, commercial and residential. They're the main contractor on their own projects and use subcontractors underneath. The programme includes two enclosed shopping centres, 20,000 sqm of enclosed retail, a 7,000 sqm private hospital, 200 residential apartments, student accommodation and major retail extensions, with more behind it.

About the role

You'd own construction delivery across the programme, sitting over the shopping centres and the hospital, building the team beneath you. A senior appointment to lead the hospital is already in train and would report to you. You'd report to the CEO directly.

The business has run this function itself until now, so expect to work closely with the CEO early on and take more rope as trust is built.

Experience counts for more than age here. Someone who wants a strong last chapter is as welcome as someone building toward one.

Key responsibilities

• Own construction delivery across the whole programme
• Build, lead and grow the construction team
• Hold subcontractors and consultants to programme, cost and quality
• Work with the CEO on resourcing, risk and priorities
• Set up how the function runs as the business scales
• Ultimately ensure the succesful delivery of projects by the team you build

What you'll need

• Led construction delivery across multiple concurrent projects
• Built and grown a delivery team
• Commercial command of programme, cost and subcontract
• Seismic or live trading environment experience is useful
• Direct, without being combative
