General Manager - Finance & Operations

About the role

We are a BCorp certified sportswear company seeking an experienced, hands-on General Manager - Finance & Operations to oversee financial management, day-to-day operations, general office management, company administration, and HR coordination. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will manage department heads and work closely with the management team to ensure the business runs effectively. You will be supported by a Director and an Accounts & Admin Assistant in office management and administrative responsibilities, with the Accounts & Admin Assistant also supporting routine accounting activities. You will monitor performance across departments, using financial information and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify issues and support improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting activities, supported by the Accounts & Admin Assistant.
• Manage cash-flow planning, budgets, financial reporting, and working capital.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, payment schedules, bank reconciliations, and financial records.
• Prepare and review management reports, highlighting financial performance, risks, and matters requiring action.
• Support commercial decisions through cost, margin, and profitability analysis.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other relevant service providers.
• Maintain appropriate financial controls and coordinate statutory reporting and filing requirements.
• Oversee daily business operations and coordinate activities across departments.
• Manage department heads, establish clear priorities, and follow up on progress.
• Work with the CEO and department managers to establish and maintain relevant departmental KPIs.

About you

• A degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
• A strong accounting or financial management background, with experience overseeing financial processes and preparing management reports.
• At least 3 years of leadership or management experience, including managing teams and coordinating work across departments.
• Previous experience in garment trading, apparel, sourcing, or a related trading business is preferred.
• Experience overseeing general office management and company administration.
• Experience establishing, tracking, and reporting on departmental KPIs.
• Practical experience using ERP systems, preferably Odoo, and Xero accounting software.
• Familiarity with AI agents and workflow automation tools, and the ability to apply them to streamline business processes where appropriate.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and the ability to analyse financial and operational data.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
