General Manager - Logistics

Job Purpose

Vikram Solar operates an integrated manufacturing footprint spanning cell, wafer, ingot, and module production across three locations Falta (West Bengal), Chennai, and Gangaikondan. The General Manager / Senior General Manager Logistics owns end-to-end logistics for the business Pan-India: the inward movement of raw materials that feed cell, wafer, ingot, and module manufacturing, and the outward movement of finished goods solar panels to customers and project sites across the country. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is accountable for ensuring raw materials reach manufacturing on time to keep production running, and that finished goods reach customers reliably, cost-effectively, and in full – building a logistics function and network capable of supporting Vikram Solar’s continued scale-up.

Role & responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end inbound and outbound logistics operations across multiple solar manufacturing plants.
• Ensure timely availability of raw materials and uninterrupted production through effective logistics planning.
• Manage dispatch and delivery of finished solar modules, ensuring OTIF (On-Time In-Full) performance.
• Oversee warehousing, inventory accuracy, material handling, and storage operations.
• Drive freight optimization and manage transport, 3PL, freight forwarding, and logistics service providers.
• Negotiate freight contracts and monitor vendor performance through defined SLAs and KPIs.
• Design and optimize the Pan-India logistics network to reduce costs and improve delivery efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with GST, e-way bill, customs, and transportation regulations.
• Mitigate logistics risks, including transit damages, insurance claims, and supply chain disruptions.
• Implement logistics MIS and tracking systems for real-time shipment visibility and performance monitoring.
• Lead and develop high-performing logistics teams across locations.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, and Customer Service teams to achieve business objectives.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience

• 12–18 years of progressive experience in logistics/supply chain management, with at least 4–6 years in a senior, Pan-India logistics leadership role – ideally within solar, renewable energy, manufacturing, or another capital-intensive/process manufacturing industry.
• Demonstrated experience managing both inbound raw material logistics and outbound finished goods logistics simultaneously.
• Experience managing multi-location logistics operations across geographically dispersed manufacturing plants.
• Familiarity with import logistics for manufacturing raw materials (e.g., polysilicon, glass, EVA, backsheet) and domestic distribution of finished goods.
• Track record of vendor/3PL management, freight negotiation, and logistics network cost optimization.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline; MBA or PG Diploma in Supply Chain/Logistics preferred.

Key Competencies

• Strong analytical and cost-management orientation, comfortable owning logistics cost and performance metrics.
• Working understanding of the solar manufacturing value chain and its raw material and component logistics requirements.
• Strong vendor negotiation, contracting, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to build and scale logistics infrastructure and processes across multiple manufacturing locations.
