General Manager - Operations

Job Summary: -

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Unit Head / Business Unit Head with 15+ years of experience in an export-oriented engineering goods manufacturing company. The candidate will be responsible for managing the complete operations of the manufacturing unit as a Profit Centre Head, with end-to-end responsibility for P&L, manufacturing, technical operations, commercial activities, exports, finance, government liaison, business growth and overall profitability of the unit.

Key Responsibilities:-

• Take complete ownership of the unit as a Profit Centre, including revenue, costs, margins and overall profitability.
• Lead and manage all aspects of manufacturing and plant operations, ensuring production targets, quality, productivity and delivery commitments are achieved.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership to technical, production, engineering, maintenance, quality and other functional teams.
• Drive cost reduction, productivity improvement, capacity utilization and operational efficiency.
• Oversee commercial activities, including procurement, costing, vendor management, contracts and commercial negotiations.
• Manage and develop the export business, including customer requirements, export documentation, order execution, shipment schedules and coordination with international customers.
• Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, government authorities, regulatory bodies and other external stakeholders.
• Handle government liaison and statutory/regulatory matters relevant to the manufacturing and export business.
• Work closely with the Finance team on budgeting, working capital, cash flow, cost control, profitability analysis and financial performance of the unit.
• Prepare and monitor annual budgets, business plans, production plans and profitability targets.
• Identify opportunities for new business, market expansion, product development and capacity enhancement.
• Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, quality, safety and export requirements.
• Establish KPIs for different functions and regularly monitor performance against targets.
• Build, lead and mentor senior management and functional teams to create a strong performance-driven culture.
• Identify operational and business risks and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Present regular business, operational and financial performance reports to the Managing Director.
• Work closely with the MD on business strategy, investment decisions, expansion plans and long-term growth initiatives.

Experience: -

• 15-20 years of overall experience, preferably in an export-based engineering goods / industrial manufacturing company.
• Proven experience as Unit Head, Plant Head, Business Unit Head, General Manager position.
• Strong experience in managing a manufacturing unit as a Profit Centre Head with complete P&L responsibility.
• In-depth understanding of manufacturing, engineering, technical operations, commercial, exports and finance.
• Strong exposure to international customers and export-oriented business operations.
• Experience in government liaison, statutory compliance and regulatory matters.
• Strong commercial and financial understanding, including costing, budgeting, working capital and profitability management.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to independently manage multiple functions and lead a large team.
