What they need
Giusto Newport is looking for a General Manager who loves restaurants, people, understands genuine hospitality, and knows how to lead and motivate a team. We’re an independent, high-volume restaurant that takes food and service seriously, without taking ourselves too seriously. We’re looking for an experienced manager who is accountable, engaged, and invested in the success of the team and the restaurant. Someone who leads from the floor, develops their managers, builds relationships with guests, and knows when to step in and get things done.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The General Manager plays a key role in the overall success of the restaurant and works closely every day with the Chef, Management Team and ownership to lead the business.
This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for the FOH team, guest experience, daily operations, and financial performance. You’ll lead and develop the management team, maintain high standards for hospitality and service, and make sure the restaurant operates in an organized, consistent, and profitable way.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead, coach, and develop the FOH management team and staff, creating clear expectations and accountability.
- Oversee FOH hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, staffing, performance management, and team development.
- Maintain a visible presence on the floor during service, supporting the team and ensuring our standards for genuine hospitality and service are consistently met.
- Build relationships with guests and regulars, handle guest concerns thoughtfully, and use feedback to improve the overall guest experience.
- Manage FOH labor, beverage costs, payroll, inventory, and other controllable expenses within established targets.
- Review financial performance with ownership, identify areas for improvement, and follow through on necessary changes.
- Oversee daily restaurant operations, including service, staffing, cleanliness, organization, and facility needs
- Work closely with the Chef and management team to maintain strong communication between FOH and BOH and ensure smooth daily operations.
- Partner with the Events Manager and BOH team to ensure private events are well planned and executed.
- Work with the Chef and ownership on marketing, PR, promotions, special events, and community relationships that support the restaurant, the community, and drive business.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We want someone who knows how to run a strong restaurant while also understanding that leadership is about people. You should be comfortable setting expectations, giving feedback, receiving feedback, making decisions, and holding people accountable. You should also enjoy being on the floor, talking with guests, teaching your team, and being part of service.
The right person will bring:
- 5+ years management experience in a high-volume, full-service restaurant.
- Experience leading and developing managers, not only hourly team members.
- Strong knowledge of restaurant operations, service standards, labor management, beverage costs, inventory, and P&L management.
- A genuine interest in hospitality, food, wine, and creating a memorable guest experience.
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through.
- The ability to address performance issues and difficult conversations directly and professionally.
- Good judgment and the ability to stay composed and make decisions during a busy service.
- A collaborative approach to working with the Chef, ownership, managers, and the entire restaurant team.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
As a small, locally owned business, you can expect engaged ownership, clear expectations, direct communication, and the ability to have a meaningful impact on the restaurant. You’ll be joining an independent restaurant where hospitality matters, people matter, and good ideas are heard.
