About the Role

Kingsway Shopping Centre is one of Newport’s busiest retail destinations, welcoming thousands of visitors each week. To maintain our reputation as a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, we are recruiting a professional General Operative to support both cleaning and security operations.

This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same. The successful candidate will play a vital part in upholding the Centre’s high standards of presentation, customer service, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Security & Safety

Patrol the Centre during trading hours, maintaining a visible presence to deter anti-social behaviour, theft, and vandalism.

Support opening and closing procedures, ensuring the Centre is secure outside of operational hours.

Respond promptly to incidents, providing accurate reports and statements.

Act as the Centre’s appointed first-aid responder (training will be provided if not already qualified).

Assist with emergency evacuations and provide support to tenants regarding theft prevention and other safety matters.

Monitor and report health & safety issues, ensuring affected areas are made safe until resolved.

Cleaning & Facilities

Undertake daily cleaning tasks across public, back-of-house, and staff areas, including restrooms, waste disposal, and high-footfall zones.

Carry out scheduled deep cleaning using appropriate equipment and products.

Maintain cleaning equipment in good working order, promptly reporting faults or maintenance requirements.

Support occasional unit deep cleans in coordination with Centre Management.

General Support

Provide excellent customer service to tenants, contractors, and members of the public, acting as a visible and approachable representative of the Centre.

Assist the Facilities & Operations Manager with additional operational requirements.

Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance job performance.

Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards at all times.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking an individual with a professional and proactive approach who takes pride in their work.

Essential:

Previous cleaning experience in a commercial or retail environment.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

High level of attention to detail and reliability.

Desirable:

Valid SIA Security Licence (training and licence costs can be funded by the company, subject to a repayment agreement if employment ends within a set timeframe).

Experience in incident reporting and security procedures.

First aid qualification (training can be provided).

General maintenance/handyman skills.
