Job Overview

Exentec Hargreaves is recruiting General Operatives and Ductwork Improvers to join our team on the North London Heat and Power Project.

The role covers different levels of experience, from entry-level site operatives through to experienced support operatives and Grade 3 Ductwork Improvers.

Successful applicants will support our qualified Duct Fitters with ductwork installation while also undertaking general site duties. The final NAECI grade will be determined by the applicant’s relevant experience, skills, qualifications and ability to perform the role.

Pay and GradingNAECI Grade 1 – Entry-Level General Operative

Suitable for applicants beginning their career in construction or industrial site operations:

• Basic rate: £14.46 per hour
• Overtime Rate A: £20.24 per hour
• Overtime Rate B: £26.03 per hour

NAECI Grade 2 – Experienced General Operative

Suitable for applicants with previous construction, engineering or industrial site experience who can provide effective support to the installation team:

• Basic rate: £16.59 per hour
• Overtime Rate A: £23.22 per hour
• Overtime Rate B: £29.86 per hour

NAECI Grade 3 – Ductwork Improver

Suitable for applicants with relevant ductwork experience who can undertake a greater range of installation activities under the direction of a qualified Duct Fitter or Supervisor:

• Basic rate: £18.86 per hour
• Overtime Rate A: £26.40 per hour
• Overtime Rate B: £33.94 per hour

Overtime will be paid at the applicable Rate A or Rate B, depending on the hours worked and the relevant NAECI arrangements.

Lodge allowance and project bonus are paid in addition, subject to eligibility and project arrangements.

Main Responsibilities

• Supporting Duct Fitters with the installation of ductwork and ventilation systems.
• Assisting with the preparation, movement and positioning of ductwork.
• Loading, unloading and distributing materials around the site.
• Preparing work areas and ensuring the required materials and equipment are available.
• Supporting the installation of brackets, supports, fittings and associated components.
• Using appropriate hand and power tools, subject to training and authorisation.
• Carrying out general site duties and housekeeping.
• Keeping working areas clean, organised and free from hazards.
• Following risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Reporting hazards, defects, damaged equipment and unsafe conditions.
• Assisting the wider site team when reasonably required.
• Developing practical ductwork installation skills under the guidance of qualified operatives and supervisors.

The duties undertaken will depend on the operative’s experience, competency, training and allocated NAECI grade.

Essential Requirements

• A valid CSCS card is accepted.
• CCNSG is preferred, as the project operates under the NAECI agreement.
• A positive attitude towards safety, quality and teamwork.
• Physically able to undertake manual site duties.
• Reliable, punctual and willing to support the wider installation team.
• Grade 2 and Grade 3 applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant previous site experience.
• Grade 3 applicants must be able to demonstrate suitable ductwork installation experience.

Desirable Practical Training

The following certificates would be advantageous:

• Abrasive Wheels
• Manual Handling
• Working at Height
• Fire Marshal

These must be valid practical, instructor-led certificates. Online-only or remotely completed certificates will not be accepted for these competencies.
