General Operative/Mill Operative

Purpose of the Role:

Bandon Co-op is seeking a Mill Operator / Production Operator to join the production team at its Kinsale feed mill. The role is suited to someone with experience in plant production, manufacturing, process operations, agricultural processing or machinery who is mechanically minded and comfortable working with production systems.

The successful candidate will support the safe, efficient and consistent operation of the mill, from raw material handling and batching through to steam conditioning, pelleting, heat treatment and finished feed production.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the mill’s process control systems and follow production schedules and recipes.
• Manage batching, mixing and mineral addition accurately and consistently.
• Operate steam conditioning, cubing and pelleting processes to achieve the required product quality.
• Monitor heat treatment temperatures and other key process parameters.
• Manage the movement of raw materials and finished products through conveyors, elevators, slides and storage bins.
• Monitor throughput, batching efficiency, downtime and general plant performance.
• Work toward daily and weekly production targets and agreed KPIs.
• Support efficient use of steam, electricity and other plant utilities.
• Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance on plant and machinery.
• Identify mechanical issues early and assist maintenance personnel or contractors as required.
• Complete scheduled cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain hygiene, feed safety and safe working conditions.
• Follow all site health and safety, quality, feed safety and traceability procedures.
• Maintain accurate production, process and cleaning records.
• Carry out some manual handling associated with production activities.

Skills & Experience

• Feed milling, food production, dairy processing, agricultural processing or similar process industry experience.
• Knowledge of steam systems and conditioning for pelleting or heat treatment.
• Experience with PLC, SCADA or similar process control systems.
• Experience with conveyors, elevators, batching systems, storage bins and bulk material handling.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a practical understanding of plant and machinery.
• Confidence using production or process control systems.
• Strong awareness of health and safety in an industrial environment.
• Good attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
• Reliable, punctual and capable of working independently as well as part of a production team.
• Flexible approach to overtime during periods of increased seasonal demand.
• Basic mechanical maintenance experience.
• Forklift or loader experience, where relevant to site activities.

Working Arrangements and Package

• Permanent, full-time position.
• Guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week.
• Day shifts only. No night shifts.
• Overtime is available during busy seasonal periods and paid at time and a half.
• Weekly performance-related bonus linked to production targets and KPIs.
