What they need

Build your career with a supportive geo-environmental team At Ridge, we are a people-focused business. You will not be a small cog in a big machine. You will join a team that works closely together, supports each other and takes pride in making a difference for our clients.

As a Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will work on new and existing projects across southern England, with a focus on Phase 1 and Phase 2 site investigations. You will join our geo-environmental consultancy team and build on your early career experience while taking on more responsibility in a supportive environment.

You will work on a wide range of projects, largely involving the redevelopment of brownfield sites. Our sectors include residential, education, manufacturing, defence and motorsport.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Plan, deliver and report on Phase 1 and Phase 2 geo-environmental and geotechnical site investigations.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, Ridge teams, regulators and other project stakeholders.
  • Log soil and rock samples to a consistent and competent standard.
  • Schedule and manage laboratory testing.
  • Carry out soil and groundwater risk assessments.
  • Work with colleagues, clients and contractors on site and in the office.
  • Help deliver projects while continuing to develop your technical and professional skills.

The Skills And Experience We’re Looking For

  • A relevant degree in geology, environmental science or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification would be beneficial.
  • One to three years’ experience in a geo-environmental or related consultancy role.
  • A willingness to take ownership of your work and take pride in what you deliver.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills, with good attention to detail.
  • A good working knowledge of current contamination topics, guidance and legislation.
  • Experience of, or exposure to, asbestos regulations, testing and risk assessment would be beneficial.
  • Sound geotechnical knowledge, including soil and rock logging.
  • A full UK driving licence and regular use of a car.

About The Team The geo-environmental department at Ridge offers a diligent, friendly and collaborative working environment. We encourage you to be curious, keep learning and bring fresh ideas to your work, while giving you the support you need to grow and progress your career.

You will work regularly with other Ridge disciplines, including civil engineering, structural engineering, planning, sustainability and architecture. This gives you valuable exposure to interdisciplinary working and helps you build a well-rounded understanding of the construction and development process.

We will also support you with progression towards chartered status.
