Geotechnical Engineer

The Geotechnical Engineer shall support the General Consultant in the review, coordination and technical assessment of geotechnical engineering submissions for the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project. The Geotechnical Engineer shall ensure that geotechnical designs comply with the Employer's Requirements (ER), applicable codes and standards, statutory requirements and project performance criteria while maintaining effective coordination with all relevant engineering disciplines throughout the design and construction stages.

Scope of Work:

• Geotechnical Design Review

  • Assist in the review of geotechnical design submissions at:
    -Detailed Engineering Design (OED) Stage
    -Working Drawing (WO) Stage
    -Construction Stage (where applicable)
  • Review geotechnical reports, drawings, calculations and specifications for:
    -Compliance with the Employer's Requirements (ER)
    -Applicable codes, standards and statutory requirements
    -Consistency with site investigation findings
    -Ground engineering suitability
    -Foundation recommendations
    -Earthworks and fill requirements
    -Ground Improvement (GI) proposals
    -Slope stability
    -Excavation support systems
    -Retaining structures
    -Settlement assessment
    -Liquefaction assessment
    -Seismic design considerations
  • Identify geotechnical design deficiencies, constructability concerns, interface issues and project risks at
    an early stage.

• Multi-Disciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate geotechnical interfaces with:
    -Civil
    -Structural
    -Architectural
    -Roads and Pavements
    -Drainage
    -Utilities
    -Electrical
    -Mechanical
    -Environmental
  • Ensure geotechnical recommendations are fully coordinated with:
    -Building foundations
    -Pavement design
    -Retaining structures
    -Drainage systems
    -Utility corridors
    -Earthworks
    -Temporary works
    -Construction sequencing
  • Identify interface issues and recommend practical engineering solutions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and technical discussions

• Design Review Submission (DRS) Support

  • Prepare structured geotechnical review comments in accordance with the Project Design Review
    Submission (ORS) procedures.
  • Review Contractor responses and verify that all review comments have been adequately addressed.
  • Assist in monitoring the status of review comments until satisfactory closure.
  • Review revised submissions to confirm compliance with the Engineer's review comments.

• Compliance with Standards and Technical Requirements

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with:
    -Employer's Requirements (ER)
    -Applicable international and local geotechnical design standards
    -Seismic design requirements
    -Earthworks specifications
    -Ground Improvement specifications
    -Foundation design requirements
  • Review geotechnical investigations, laboratory testing and field-testing programmes.
  • Review recommendations arising from additional site investigations where required.

• Technical Reports, Drawings and Documentation

  • Review geotechnical reports for:
    -Accuracy
    -Completeness
    -Consistency
    -Engineering justification
  • Review:
    -Borehole logs
    -Laboratory test results
    -Ground Investigation Reports (GIR)
    -Geotechnical Interpretative Reports (GIR)
    -Foundation design reports
    -Ground Improvement Reports
    -Settlement analyses
    -Slope stability analyses
    -Earthworks calculations
  • Ensure consistency between geotechnical reports, drawings, specifications and design intent.

• Site & Construction Support (as required)

  • Assist in responding to site technical queries and design clarifications.
  • Review geotechnical method statements.
  • Review Ground Improvement proposals and construction methodologies.
  • Participate in site inspections and technical meetings where required.
  • Review Requests for Information (RFls), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), site instructions and
    proposed design changes relating to geotechnical works.
  • Assist in reviewing:
    -Earthworks
    -Ground Improvement Works
    -Foundation construction
    -Excavation support systems
    -Dewatering proposals
    -Instrumentation and monitoring reports
    -Field Density Tests (FD1)
    -Plate Load Tests
    -Pile Integrity Tests
    -Static and D namic Load Tests where applicable

Qualifications / Experience Requirements
(i) At least 5 years of experience in design works within a multidisciplinary team.
(ii) At least one ( 1) land transportation project in related field

Required Education / Training
(i) Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering/Geotechnical Engineering
(ii) PRC License holder

Competency Requirements
(i) Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
