GN&C Engineer P1 – Space Systems

Someone in this role would typically have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with experience in the field or in a related area. This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.

**International travel may be required. Possible straight time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) **

Required

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school with experience in the field or related area.
• Significant knowledge of GN&C
• Experience with development and analysis of 6 DOF algorithms and simulations
• Proficiency with C/C++ and Python
• Familiarity with validation and verification of GN&C algorithms and requirements Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.

Preferred

• Master’s degree in engineering and 3 years or more of experience in the field or in a related area; or a PhD. in engineering or in a related field
• Significant experience with C, C++, and Python
• Significant experience with MATLAB including Simulink, Stateflow, and Autocode
• Safety and flight-critical embedded software development
• Experience with source code control and continuous integration
• Agile software development
• Experience in the following flight software specialty areas:
  • GN&C software development
  • Software process and procedure development
  • Software Integration and Build Management
• Experience with Kalman filters, Neural Networks, UDU factorization and/or advanced smoothers
• Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning Experience with TRICK/JEOD simulation architecture.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Essential Functions

• Work Environment - Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
• Physical Requirements - Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
• Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
• Attendance - Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements. Other Essential Functions - Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. The GN&C Engineer will:

• Develop and evaluate safety-critical flight software
• Develop, integrate, and test GN&C algorithms
• Utilize MATLAB/Simulink/Autocode skills to update GN&C Flight Software
• Utilize Python & C/C++ skills to analyze and test GN&C Flight Software
• Validate and Verify GN&C algorithms and requirements
• Provide recommendations for improvements of flight software, its processes and procedures
• Perform deep-dive analyses of flight and simulation software
• Perform other duties as required.
