What they need

Senior GNC Software Engineer – Sensors

We are supporting a pioneering space robotics company developing next-generation lunar mobility and autonomous systems designed to support humanity’s long-term presence beyond Earth.

As part of continued growth, they are seeking a Senior GNC Software Engineer – Sensors to lead development of advanced sensing systems for autonomous lunar rover operations.

The Role

You will lead the Sensor Team, owning the sensing architecture that enables autonomous navigation, localization, and control across lunar surface mobility systems.

Working at the intersection of robotics, autonomy, perception, and space exploration, you’ll help develop mission-critical technologies supporting future NASA lunar missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of sensing architectures for autonomous robotic platforms
  • Own sensor integration activities including drivers, middleware, calibration, synchronization, and sensor fusion
  • Support integration with localization, mapping, planning, and autonomy systems
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineering teams to optimize rover sensing capabilities
  • Support simulation, field testing, hardware bring-up, and performance validation activities
  • Drive technical decision-making around sensor selection, integration, and system performance
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership across the autonomy and perception teams

Required Background

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Robotics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing sensing or perception systems for robotics, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles
  • Experience with sensing technologies such as LiDAR, radar, cameras, IMUs, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of sensor fusion, calibration, synchronization, and coordinate transformations
  • Experience with ROS, cFS, or similar robotics middleware environments
  • Strong C++ and embedded software experience
  • Strong communication and technical leadership skills
  • US Person status required

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with SLAM, perception systems, or autonomous navigation
  • Familiarity with spaceflight or safety-critical systems
  • Experience with EKF, factor graphs, or advanced estimation techniques
  • Advanced degree related to robotics, sensing, or autonomous systems

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomy and robotics systems that will directly support future lunar exploration missions and long-duration planetary mobility.
