Goods In / Quality Control Operative

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented Goods In & Quality Control Warehouse Operative to join our warehouse team. In this dual-focus role, you will manage incoming stock deliveries while applying stringent quality control (QC) procedures to verify that all high-specification automotive components match our exact tolerances, drawings, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Goods Inward & Inventory

• Receive & Unload Deliveries: Unload incoming shipments from couriers, freight forwarders, and suppliers safely and efficiently.
• Booking In: Accurately log incoming goods into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) / Warehouse Management System (WMS).
• Discrepancy Reporting: Identify and report shortages with suppliers, overages, or damaged deliveries to the Purchasing and Quality departments immediately.
• Put-Away: Ensure items cleared quality checks are promptly stored in designated bin/shelf locations.

Quality Control & Inspection

• First-Line Inspection: Inspect incoming components against engineering drawings, purchase orders, and technical specifications.
• Dimensional & Visual Checks: Measure critical dimensions using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges) and visually inspect parts for surface finish, burrs, or defects.
• Non-Conformance Management: Raise Non-Conformance Reports With the Quality Manger on rejected items, isolate non-conforming stock in quarantine areas, and liaise with Quality/Purchasing on supplier returns.
• Traceability & Documentation: Maintain precise records of inspection results, batch numbers, and material certificates where required.

Warehouse Operations & Maintenance

• Stock Audits: Participate in periodic cycle counts and full stock-takes.
• Safe Handling: Operate warehouse handling equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, forklifts) following safety protocols.
• Good Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment adhering to Health & Safety regulations.

Skills

• Key Skills & Experience

Essential

• Previous experience in a Goods Inward or Quality Control role within a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on proficiency with basic measuring tools (vernier calipers, micrometers, pitch gauges).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, spec sheets, and purchase orders.
• Strong computer literacy with experience using ERP, WMS, or stock management databases.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

• Background or interest in automotive parts, hose fittings, or mechanical engineering components.
• Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management standards.
