GPS EXECUTIVE

A GPS Executive (or Fleet Tracking Executive / Telematics Executive) in the transport and logistics industry is responsible for real-time tracking, vehicle monitoring, data analysis, and coordinating fleet operations via GPS tracking software and telematics systems.
Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the role and core responsibilities:

1. Live Vehicle Tracking & Monitoring

• Real-Time Oversight: Monitor the movement, speed, location, and status of all fleet vehicles using central GPS mapping software.
• Geofencing & Route Adherence: Set up geofences (virtual boundaries) and ensure drivers stick to designated routes and schedules.
• Alert Resolution: Act promptly on automated system alerts such as route deviations, unauthorized stops, speeding, over-idling, or emergency/SOS triggers.

2. Driver & Dispatch Coordination

• Driver Communication: Maintain constant communication with drivers to give real-time traffic updates, detour instructions, or address transit delays.
• Behaviour Tracking: Monitor driver performance metrics, including harsh braking, sudden acceleration, over-speeding, and continuous driving hours to enforce safety protocols.
• Trip Sheet Validation: Cross-check live GPS trip logs (mileage, start/stop times) against manual driver trip sheets to prevent fraudulent claims.

3. Fleet Efficiency & Fuel Management

• Route Optimization: Coordinate with dispatch teams to plan the shortest, most fuel-efficient, and cost-effective routes.
• Fuel Monitoring: Analyze fuel usage and sensor data to prevent fuel theft, pilferage, excessive idling, or inefficient transit times.
• Turnaround Time (TAT) Reduction: Track loading and unloading durations at hubs, warehouses, and client locations to minimise vehicle downtime.

4. Safety, Incident & Asset Security

• Stolen Vehicle Recovery Support: Assist management and law enforcement during theft or hijacking incidents using immobilizer tools and location pinpointing.
• Accident Support: Provide quick location coordinates to emergency response units, road assistance teams, or mechanics during vehicle breakdowns or crashes.
• Cargo Security: Ensure high-value or temperature-controlled goods remain intact by monitoring door sensors and temperature logging integration.

5. Data Reporting & MIS

• Daily/Weekly Operations Reports: Generate detailed reports on vehicle utilization, total distance covered, trip completion rates, idle time, and fuel consumption.
• Performance Analytics: Present analytical summaries to transport managers to highlight inefficient assets, frequent breakdown zones, or driver training needs.

6. System Maintenance & Vendor Liaison

• Hardware Operations: Ensure all vehicle GPS devices, SIM cards, and onboard telematics units are active, properly calibrated, and online.
• Troubleshooting: Identify device tampering, signal failure, or hardware malfunctions, and coordinate with internal technicians or third-party GPS vendors for repairs.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with GPS tracking platforms (e.g., FleetX, Loconav, Samsara, Telematics software, Google Maps API).
• Analytical Skills: Ability to process large volumes of movement data and extract actionable operational insights.
• Communication & Crisis Handling: Quick decision-making skills during route emergencies, breakdowns, or security threats.
• Geography & Logistics Knowledge: Thorough understanding of highway networks, transit rules, restricted zones, and local transport regulations.
