What they need
Grading Floor Supervisor
Days Eggs | Lower Light, South Australia
About us
Days Eggs is a major supplier of Eggs to the South Australian market. From humble beginnings back in 1988, Days Eggs has expanded rapidly yet remained a family-operated business. With a focus on family values and the highest standards of Animal Welfare for our Hens and quality products for our customers, we are proud of our Eggs and achievements!
About the role
Days Eggs is seeking an experienced Supervisor to lead the daily operation of our Grading Floor at Lower Light.
This is a hands-on leadership and training role. You will organise the team and the day’s production, respond to equipment and operational issues, and maintain the standards expected in a food production environment. You will also train workers, check their understanding of required procedures, and manage the records that show what training they have completed.
We are looking for someone who can run an organised floor while building the skills and confidence of the people working on it.
What you’ll be responsible for
Production and equipment
- Coordinate daily grading activities, including pre-start, start-up and shutdown.
- Allocate labour within the approved staffing allocation and adjust the team’s work as production needs change.
- Monitor production flow, identify causes of downtime and work with Maintenance to resolve issues.
- Oversee end-of-day procedures for the MOBA grading machine so it is clean and ready for the following day.
- Identify improvements to grading processes and contribute to safe operating procedures.
People leadership and training
- Lead grading floor employees through clear direction, coaching and day-to-day support.
- Personally conduct new worker inductions and practical, on-the-job training.
- Train workers in the procedures relevant to their duties, including food safety, hygiene, good manufacturing practices and safe operating procedures.
- Observe workers performing tasks, provide feedback and identify when further training or refresher training is needed.
- Manage induction, training and competency records, ensuring they are accurate, current and completed promptly.
- Be a first point of contact for day-to-day employee questions and concerns, and lead performance reviews for direct reports.
- Provide supervisory coverage for the Warehouse team when required.
Food safety, quality and WHS
- Make sure products are handled in line with Days Eggs’ food safety and quality procedures.
- Verify quality control, critical control point and production records, and raise non-conformances with the Food Safety and Quality team.
- Promote hygiene, good manufacturing practices and safe working procedures on the floor.
- Conduct toolbox talks and area inspections, and follow through on safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate grading records and complete the administration needed to support daily operations.
About you
You are comfortable taking responsibility for both production results and how people perform their work. You can give clear instructions, demonstrate a task, check understanding and address gaps before they become ongoing problems.
To succeed, you will bring:
- At least three years’ supervisory experience in a food production environment.
- Strong working knowledge of food safety and quality systems, including HACCP and GMP.
- Experience training workers in practical tasks and maintaining accurate training records.
- The ability to organise staff and coordinate production to meet daily requirements.
- Sound administrative and computer skills.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to address performance and operational issues.
- A current First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- A willingness to undertake regular overtime to get the job done.
A high-risk forklift licence, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or frontline management qualification would be an advantage.
