Grading Operator

Seeking a reliable and safety-conscious **Grading Operator** to join our highway construction team in Albemarle, NC. This position is responsible for safely operating heavy earthmoving equipment to perform grading and achieve accurate elevations and finished grades according to project plans.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating **dozers, backhoes, and other grading equipment**, understands grade stakes and construction plans, and is willing to assist with general labor and other duties as directed by the Grading Foreman.

Highway construction experience is preferred but not required. **GPS/GPS machine-control experience is a plus.**

Key Responsibilities

* Safely operate dozers, backhoes, and other heavy earthmoving equipment.

* Perform grading and excavation work according to project plans and specifications.

* Read and understand **grade stakes, elevations, and construction plans**.

* Maintain accurate grades and slopes to meet project requirements.

* Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on equipment.

* Identify equipment issues and report maintenance needs promptly.

* Follow all company safety procedures and construction-site requirements.

* Assist with manual labor and other construction activities when needed.

* Work closely with the Grading Foreman and construction crew.

* Maintain awareness of workers, vehicles, equipment, and site conditions.

* Represent the company professionally when interacting with coworkers, customers, and the public.

Required Qualifications

* 2+ years of experience operating earthmoving/heavy construction equipment

* Hands-on experience with dozers, backhoes, or similar equipment.

* Experience with grading and earthwork.

* Ability to read and understand grade stakes and construction plans**.

* Knowledge of heavy equipment safety and jobsite practices.

* Ability to perform manual labor as required.

* Valid driver's license preferred.

* Reliable transportation to the office or assigned jobsite.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Strong teamwork, reliability, and communication skills.

* Ability to work outdoors and on uneven terrain.

* Ability to lift up to approximately 90 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

* Highway or roadway construction experience.

* GPS or machine-control experience.

* Experience with asphalt or paving projects.

* Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.

* Knowledge of construction surveying, elevations, slopes, and grade control.

Physical & Work Requirements

* Primarily outdoor construction-site work.

* Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work on uneven surfaces.

* Ability to lift up to 90 pounds.

* Flexible working hours depending on project requirements.

* Typical start time is 6:30 AM.
