About the role

We are seeking a Graduate Engineer to join our team in Christchurch Central Canterbury on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate to launch their career within a respected mechanical engineering organisation. As a Graduate Engineer, you will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining practical experience across pressure equipment condition assessment, risk based inspection programmes, mechanical engineering design, analysis, and project delivery. This role is fundamental to supporting our engineering projects and developing the next generation of engineering talent at PEI Group.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior engineers and inspectors to plan, inspect and assess condition of pressure equipment
• Development and evergreening of risk based inspection programmes for pressure equipment
• Assist in the design, development and analysis of mechanical engineering solutions using industry-standard software and tools
• Support senior engineers in the preparation of technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
• Conduct research and analysis to support engineering projects and feasibility studies
• Participate in site visits and inspections to gather data and monitor project progress
• Contribute to problem-solving activities and provide technical support during project implementation
• Maintain accurate project records and documentation in accordance with company standards
• Liaise with clients, contractors and internal teams to ensure project requirements are understood and met
• Comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to a safe working environment

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials and design methodologies
• Proficiency or willingness to learn industry-standard engineering software (such as CAD packages)
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams
• Demonstrated initiative and a proactive approach to learning and professional development
• Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation and engineering standards
• Driving licence (desirable for site visits)
