About the Role
Ready to help shape the future of electricity in Northland?
As a Graduate Network Planning Engineer, you'll join our Network Development team and play a key role in supporting the growth, reliability, and resilience of Northpower's electricity network. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge in a real-world environment while learning from experienced industry professionals.
You'll contribute to the planning and development of our network by analysing capacity, power quality, reliability, and security of supply. You'll assist with power system studies, assess major customer and distributed energy resource connection applications, develop business cases for network investments, and help identify innovative solutions to meet the changing needs of our customers and communities.
This role offers exposure to emerging technologies, renewable energy integration, network strategy development, and the challenges shaping the future of New Zealand's electricity industry. If you're looking to build a rewarding engineering career while making a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.
About You
We're looking for a motivated and curious graduate who is eager to learn, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about the future of energy.
You'll bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- A current full New Zealand driver's licence
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced computer literacy and confidence working with technology
- The ability to prepare technical reports and business cases
- A collaborative and positive attitude with a customer-focused mindset
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- A willingness to learn and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with power systems, distributed energy resources, modelling software, or network planning concepts would be advantageous but is not essential.
What's in it for you?
You'll be joining a business where your work has a real impact on communities across Aotearoa. In return, you'll enjoy:
- Competitive pay, plus flexible leave and boosted KiwiSaver options
- Life insurance, discounted medical cover and wellbeing support
- Fuel and retail discounts
- Ongoing learning, development and career progression opportunities
- A supportive, inclusive and family-friendly culture where safety comes first
- The opportunity to work on essential infrastructure projects that help power New Zealand's future
