What they need
Job Overview
We are seeking a capable, hands-on Graduate or Junior Engineer to join our engineering team based in our R&D workshop located close to Exeter, Devon.
This is a broad, multidisciplinary role with an initial focus on new product development, engineering testing and product improvement. The successful candidate will work across mechanical, electrical and process engineering activities, with the exact balance depending on their background, strengths and the needs of the business.
We are open to candidates from a range of engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/electronic, chemical, mechatronics, manufacturing or general engineering. We do not expect candidates to have experience in all of these areas. More important is a strong engineering foundation, practical aptitude, and a willingness to learn and work outside their primary discipline.
This is a varied, practical role suited to someone who enjoys building, testing, troubleshooting and improving real engineering systems.
Duties
· Design, build and run tests for new product development and existing product improvement.
· Develop test methods, fixtures and experimental equipment, and record and analyse results.
· Support product development from concept through prototyping, testing, design iteration and production.
· Produce prototype components using CAD, 3D printing and other appropriate methods.
· Contribute to mechanical design, engineering drawings and product documentation.
· Support the development, testing and validation of electrical and electronic hardware.
· Assist with electrical design, integration and fault finding where appropriate to experience and capability.
· Investigate product performance, faults and failures and contribute to practical solutions.
· Build, modify and test prototype and production equipment.
· Support system integration, production, QC and final product testing.
· Work across engineering disciplines and contribute to activities outside your primary area of expertise where required.
· Contribute to continuous improvement of products, testing methods and engineering processes.
Requirements
· Degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in an engineering or closely related technical discipline.
· Strong practical engineering aptitude and an interest in how real systems are built, tested and improved.
· Hands-on approach and willingness to work directly with prototypes, test equipment and production systems.
· Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
· Willingness and ability to learn outside your existing area of expertise.
· Ability to work independently when appropriate while contributing effectively within a small engineering team.
· Good communication and documentation skills.
· Strong work ethic, initiative and willingness to see tasks through to completion.
· Ability to commute reliably to our Exeter-area site. The site is not easily accessible by public transport.
· Existing right to work in the UK without current or future requirement for employer sponsorship. Oxi-Tech is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role, either now or in the future.
Desirable
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial. Candidates are not expected to meet all of these criteria:
· CAD and engineering drawings (we use SolidWorks).
· 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
· Mechanical design, manufacture or assembly.
· Experimental design, laboratory testing or engineering test programmes.
· Electrical/electronic systems, instrumentation and sensors.
· Electrical hardware testing and fault finding.
· Chemical, process or fluid systems.
· Data acquisition and analysis.
· Microcontrollers, Arduino, Python or other engineering-focused programming.
· Building, repairing or modifying mechanical or electrical equipment.
· Practical engineering experience gained through employment, placements, university projects, Formula Student or similar activities.
· Full UK driving licence.
Benefits
· Competitive salary based on experience.
· Broad exposure to product development and real-world engineering systems.
· Opportunities to develop experience across multiple engineering disciplines.
· Opportunities to grow with a fast-moving company developing innovative technology.
· A varied role where your contribution makes a difference.
