Brief Description Are you a driven, ambitious individual looking to master every discipline in the grain business? The DeLong Co. is seeking a Grain Merchandiser for our Clinton grain exports team — a role built to develop you into a well-rounded leader across accounting, merchandising, risk management, logistics, grading, and outside operations. WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE
- Learn every discipline in the grain division — a true cross-functional foundation for a long-term career in agribusiness
- Work directly with producers, end-users, brokers, and industry professionals, building a real network in the industry
- Gain hands-on exposure to physical grain trading, hedge desk operations, and risk mitigation
- Contribute data analytics and insights directly to the Head of Merchandising, VP of Grain, and President
- Clear path forward to Grain Elevator Group Manager for the right candidate
What You'll Do
- Accounting: Support AGRIS accounting software use, contract/ticket/settlement review, accounts receivable management, and customer account review
- Merchandising & Origination: Communicate with producers and end-users, manage physical grain trading positions, monitor HPR/contracts, and support trade arbitrage and intercompany trades
- Risk Management: Support hedge desk operations, reconcile daily HPR, and assist with audit and risk mitigation procedures
- Logistics: Coordinate truck/rail/barge shipping and receiving, calculate transportation rates, review freight invoices, and build shipping schedules
- Grain Grading: Learn grading procedures for corn, soybeans, and wheat, operate scale systems, perform purity and toxin tests, and manage sample documentation
- Outside Operations: Gain exposure to elevator operations, quality management, safety practices, maintenance procedures, and inventory systems
THE WORK ENVIRONMENT Role This role blends office-based analytical work with hands-on exposure across the grain division. You'll spend significant time at a desk working through contracts and data, balanced with time learning operations in the field. The environment includes:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while managing contracts, data, and communications
- Fast-moving, high-pressure situations with rapidly changing requirements, especially during peak season
- Extended hours required during busy periods
Requirements WHAT YOU'LL BRING Required
- 1 year of agricultural business experience or a farming background
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
