Senior Backend Engineer – TypeScript / Node.js / GraphQL

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to build and support secure, scalable APIs and backend services within a complex enterprise environment.

Must Have

• Strong hands-on TypeScript and Node.js backend development experience
• Strong GraphQL experience, including schema design, performance and error handling
• Experience designing, versioning and maintaining APIs, with a solid understanding of backward compatibility
• Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect (OIDC), authentication flows and secure token handling
• Hands-on AWS experience, including containers, load balancing, caching and secrets management
• Strong observability and debugging skills across distributed systems using logs, traces and correlation IDs
• Experience with automated unit and E2E testing using Jest/Vitest, Playwright or similar
• Strong knowledge of Git, CI/CD, feature flags, release and rollback practices
• Good understanding of security, authorisation and least-privilege principles
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and ownership mindset

Nice to Have

• Apollo Federation v2, Apollo GraphOS or Rover
• Kong API Gateway
• Prometheus and Grafana
• MCP (Model Context Protocol) server experience
• Retail banking, payments or financial-services experience
• Large monorepo experience
• Experience using GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or similar AI coding assistants
