Grid Connection Engineer: Utility-Scale Solar & Battery Storage

Location: Hybrid, UK-based
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent, full-time

Be the person who gets projects connected to the grid
Every solar and battery project lives or dies on its grid connection, and this role puts you at the heart of it. Our client, a PE-backed UK renewable developer, is growing its team and wants a Grid Connection Engineer to take a project’s connection from application through to energisation.

The business
A developer in growth mode with a strong pipeline and the backing to deliver it. The engineering team is expanding, so you’ll have real ownership and a voice in how the grid function is built.

The projects
You’ll work on utility-scale solar and battery storage sites, such as a 50–100 MW solar farm with co-located storage, connecting at 33 kV or 132 kV. You’ll sit alongside the electrical design and project delivery teams, so you’ll see the results of your work on live sites.

What you’ll get stuck into

• Running grid connection studies and assessing network capacity for new sites
• Reviewing connection offers and budget estimates from the network operator, on both technical and commercial terms
• Leading G99 applications and managing the relationship with the DNO and other network bodies
• Working with consultants, connection providers and the EPC contractor to keep the connection on programme
• Supporting site screening, so the team targets locations with real grid potential
• Keeping clear records of every live and potential connection across the pipeline

What you’ll bring

• A degree in electrical or power systems engineering (or equivalent)
• 3+ years in grid connections, ideally with solar, battery or wind projects
• Solid knowledge of HV and EHV connections, G99 and the DNO connection process
• Experience with a power systems tool such as IPSA or DIgSILENT PowerFactory
• The right to work in the UK

Even better if you have

• Python scripting for studies and analysis
• Experience with independent networks (IDNOs) and connection providers
• Knowledge of public network data used in studies
• CEng or IEng status, or you’re working towards it
• A full UK driving licence for the occasional site visit
