What they need

Grid Connection Engineer – Renewable Energy

Help shape the future of renewable energy

Our client is a fast-growing renewable energy company focused on accelerating the energy transition in Germany. The business invests in and develops climate infrastructure, with a particular focus on optimizing and expanding existing onshore wind farms.

With an established portfolio of renewable energy sites, the company is delivering the next generation of efficient, reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure through the modernization and repowering of existing wind projects.

We are now looking for a Grid Connection Engineer to support the development and delivery of grid connection solutions for onshore wind projects across Germany.

The Role

As a Grid Connection Engineer, you will support the technical development, optimisation and implementation of grid connection solutions for wind farms. You will work across electrical infrastructure within wind farms as well as medium- and high-voltage systems, collaborating closely with grid operators, consultants, equipment suppliers, turbine manufacturers and internal project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of grid connection concepts for wind farms, covering both on-site infrastructure and medium- and high-voltage connections.
  • Contribute to the technical and commercial optimisation of grid connection solutions, including cable routes, substations, transformers, switching stations and grid connection points.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including grid operators, engineering consultants, wind turbine manufacturers, suppliers, project development, construction, legal, financing and investment teams.
  • Support the preparation, review and follow-up of grid connection applications, offers, connection agreements, technical requirements and planning documentation.
  • Support the technical planning of grid connections, including coordination of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), protection and metering concepts, cable concepts and interfaces between wind farms, substations and grid operators.
  • Support the selection and qualification of engineering consultants, contractors and suppliers within the grid connection area.
  • Contribute to the preparation and execution of technical and commercial negotiations with contractors and suppliers.
  • Work closely with internal teams, suppliers and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues relating to grid connections.
  • Provide support on electrical and grid-related matters affecting existing wind farms.
  • Maintain and document grid connection concepts, technical configurations, project status, changes and relevant project documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings, technical coordination sessions and occasional site visits to grid operators, suppliers, contractors and wind farms.
  • Travel occasionally within Germany as required.

About You

We are looking for an engineer with a strong interest in renewable energy and electrical infrastructure, who enjoys working at the interface between technical, commercial and regulatory topics.

Your Background

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, Industrial Engineering or a comparable qualification.
  • Initial professional experience in grid connections, electrical infrastructure, wind energy, photovoltaics, substations, medium voltage or high voltage is advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of grid connection processes, electrical engineering/planning or renewable energy projects.
  • Strong interest in the technical, commercial and regulatory aspects of connecting renewable energy projects to the electricity grid.
  • Structured, reliable and solution-oriented approach to work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, external partners and grid operators.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) or technical drawings is advantageous.
  • Very good German and good English language skills.

Desirable Additional Experience

Experience or knowledge in the following areas would be an advantage:

  • Wind farm projects and the interfaces between wind turbines, wind farm cabling, substations, transformers and grid operators.
  • Substation engineering, particularly medium voltage, high voltage, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering and earthing.
  • SCADA systems, plant controllers / power plant controllers, remote control technology, communication interfaces and signal coordination with grid operators.
  • Technical planning documents such as Single Line Diagrams, site plans, cable route plans, protection and metering concepts and interface lists.
  • Relevant grid connection requirements and standards, such as VDE-AR-N 4110, VDE-AR-N 4120, grid operator technical connection rules (TAB) and plant certification requirements.

What You Can Expect

You will join an ambitious renewable energy business working on projects that directly contribute to the energy transition in Germany.

The organisation is driven by innovative technologies and practical approaches to creating a more sustainable energy system. Its culture is built around transparency, initiative, respect and collaboration, with an environment where people are encouraged to take ownership, learn from challenges and continuously improve.

You can expect:

  • The opportunity to contribute to large-scale renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects.
  • A technically varied role spanning engineering, project development and commercial interfaces.
  • Close collaboration with experienced internal and external stakeholders.
  • Opportunities for professional development based on your individual skills and interests.
  • A flexible working environment focused on productivity and effective collaboration.
  • A supportive and collegial team culture.
  • A role with regular exposure to a broad range of technical and commercial stakeholders across the renewable energy sector.

Interested?

If you are an electrical or energy engineer looking to develop your career in renewable energy, grid connections and electrical infrastructure, we would be keen to hear from you.

Apply now to become part of a growing team helping to modernise Germany's renewable energy infrastructure and accelerate the transition to a cleaner energy system.
