Groundworks & Drainage Operative

The role

You will work as part of a team carrying out:

• Safe excavation around underground services.
• Drainage installation, maintenance and repairs.
• General groundworks, backfilling and reinstatement.
• Deeper excavation works following appropriate training, assessment and authorisation.
• Site preparation, setting up barriers and maintaining tidy, safe working areas.
• Daily checks of tools, equipment and plant, reporting defects or concerns promptly.

Safety is central to this role. You must follow safe digging practices, work within your training and competence, and stop and raise concerns whenever conditions are unsafe. Excavation work will be subject to supervision and ongoing monitoring.

• Previous experience in groundworks, drainage or utility excavation is preferred.

Qualifications and training

Relevant qualifications are preferred, particularly:

• EUSR Category 1 and 2 — locating underground services and safe excavation.
• Streetworks / NRSWA Operative.
• Excavator or dumper tickets, such as NPORS or CPCS.
• First Aid.
• Excavation support or shoring training.
• Confined space training, where relevant to the work.

You do not need to hold every qualification listed to apply. Training will be provided to suitable candidates, but the successful applicant must hold or obtain the qualifications required for their duties before undertaking those activities.

A full UK driving licence is required with less than 6 points.

Pay: £16.00-£22.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week

• Street Works Card (preferred)
• First Aid Certification (preferred)
• EUSR Category 3-5 (preferred)
