We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Groundhand to join our Texas team. This is a hands-on position supporting our underground construction crews. The ideal candidate has experience with digging, excavation, underground utilities, and site restoration and is comfortable working outdoors in physically demanding conditions.

Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.

What You'll Do

• Assist Crew Leaders and construction crews with all phases of underground utility construction
• Perform hand digging, excavation, trenching, and potholing using shovels and hand or mechanical tools
• Safely expose and work around existing underground utilities
• Assist with the installation and maintenance of underground telecommunications, fiber optic, electrical, and other utility infrastructure
• Assist HDD and underground crews with daily construction activities
• Perform backfilling, grading, cleanup, and site restoration following construction activities
• Help restore disturbed areas, including soil, gravel, concrete, asphalt, landscaping, and other surfaces as needed
• Load, unload, move, and organize tools, materials, and equipment
• Maintain clean and organized jobsites
• Perform traffic control duties as directed by the Crew Leader
• Follow all OSHA, company, and jobsite safety requirements
• Communicate effectively with Crew Leaders, coworkers, customers, and other personnel
• Perform other construction duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in construction, utility work, excavation, or as a Groundhand/Laborer
• Hands-on experience with digging and excavation
• Experience working around underground utilities strongly preferred
• Experience with site restoration following construction preferred
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Able to safely operate or work around construction tools and equipment
• Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn
• Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
• Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
• Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
• Valid driver's license required

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• Must be able to pass required drug, criminal, and background checks
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite
• Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, or emergency work when needed
• Willingness to travel as required, including occasional overnight travel

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding outdoor position. The Groundhand must be able to:

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance
• Dig, shovel, excavate, and perform manual labor for extended periods
• Stand, walk, crouch, kneel, bend, and sit as required
• Work around heavy equipment and active construction sites
• Wear required PPE, including safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and other protective equipment
• Work safely in heat, cold, rain, and other adverse weather conditions
• Safely perform job duties around traffic and construction equipment

Schedule & Travel

This is a full-time, in-person field position. Our Texas work is primarily local commercial construction, but travel may be required depending on project needs.

Employees may occasionally be required to work overtime, evenings, weekends, or emergency/on-call work.
