Freelance Director, Account Leadership (CPG Agency)

Work Model - Hybrid

Pay - $75-87 p/h

Overview

We are seeking a freelance, director-level Account Leader to support a high-profile CPG client within an agency environment. This is a heavy-hitting leadership role for someone with deep consumer packaged goods experience and a strong track record managing complex integrated accounts. The ideal consultant brings strategic account leadership, senior client counsel, and hands-on experience across retail, DTC, and production.

Contract Details

• Freelance/contract engagement
• 20–40 hours per week
• Initial term of 3+ months

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior day-to-day account lead for a CPG client, building trust with client stakeholders and agency partners
• Provide strategic leadership across integrated marketing initiatives, from brief development through execution and delivery
• Lead account planning, scopes, timelines, budgets, and resourcing across multiple workstreams
• Partner closely with creative, strategy, media, production, and project management teams to ensure seamless execution
• Advise clients on brand, campaign, retail, and direct-to-consumer initiatives with a strong understanding of the CPG landscape
• Oversee production-related workflows, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with client expectations
• Identify risks, solve problems proactively, and keep programs moving in a fast-paced agency environment
• Help drive account growth by spotting opportunities to expand services and deepen the client relationship
• Present confidently to senior client stakeholders and serve as a steady executive presence across the business

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of account management or account leadership experience, with significant time spent in an agency environment
• Deep CPG experience is required
• Proven success leading large, complex consumer brands and navigating matrixed client organizations
• Strong experience with both retail/shopper marketing and DTC/e-commerce initiatives
• Meaningful production experience, with the ability to oversee work from concept through final delivery
• Director-level presence with the ability to operate strategically while also staying close to the work
• Excellent communication, client management, and cross-functional leadership skills
• Able to ramp quickly, provide immediate value, and operate with minimal oversight

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on high-volume integrated campaigns for nationally recognized CPG brands
• Comfort managing multiple stakeholders, shifting priorities, and quick-turn deliverables
• Experience in fast-moving agency settings where strong judgment and executive presence are essential
