Group Controller

Whitecap Search is seeking a highly skilled individual to step into a crucial accounting role on a contract-to-hire basis. This position is pivotal in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency within the accounting team. The successful candidate will initially engage in hands-on responsibilities with the potential to evolve into a strategic leadership role. Familiarity with JD Edwards and experience in retail or manufacturing, particularly in direct-to-consumer settings, is highly desirable. Experience within larger organizations with international operations and subsidiaries is advantageous, though a CPA is not required.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee accounting operations.
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Manage journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, reserves, and financial statement preparation.
• Support consolidated financial reporting across multiple entities/subsidiaries.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Manage accounting across an international/multi-entity environment.
• Support Board, management, and lender reporting.
• Oversee and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
• Support external financial statement and compliance audits.
• Partner with external auditors and other third parties.
• Support lender reporting, debt compliance, and borrowing-base reporting as needed.
• Oversee operational accounting areas including AR, credit/collections, inventory accounting, product costing, reserves, PPV, and inventory valuation.
• Support tax compliance and tax reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve close, reporting, and overall accounting processes.
• Work closely with Finance, Operations, IT, HR, and executive leadership.
• Lead, mentor, and support the accounting team.
• Remain very hands-on with day-to-day accounting while the function continues to evolve.

Requirements

• 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong Controller-level or senior accounting leadership experience.
• Must be willing and able to operate as a hands-on Controller.
• Strong general ledger, close, and financial reporting experience.
• Multi-entity/subsidiary accounting experience.
• International accounting exposure.
• Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge.
• Experience managing and developing accounting staff.

Strong Pluses

• Manufacturing, retail, distribution, or consumer products experience.
• Inventory accounting and product costing.
• Lender reporting, ABL, or borrowing-base experience.
• Process improvement.

Location: South Florida

Schedule: 4 days onsite / Wednesday remote

Hours: Approximately 45 hours/week on average

Interview Process: 2 rounds: TA virtually, followed by CFO onsite

Priority: Urgent
