What they need

Why we want you

Our groups offer friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's, bringing people together and creating a sense of community. Groups can only support the Parkinson’s community in this way because of the time and energy shared by volunteers.

Group Helper is a flexible and varied role. You might help with welcoming people to the group, serving tea and coffee or setting up the room for meetings. If physical activity is your interest, you could help out at activity sessions. You might choose to lend your time to do a fundraising collection or even organise a fundraising event.

The tasks will depend on the group’s plans and needs, so please read this role description alongside the role advertisement for further details. Please talk to the person who told you about this role, any Parkinson’s UK member of staff or message [email protected] to find out more or ask questions.

If you have other skills to offer, we’ll talk to you to see how they could support the group.

Once you start volunteering you will have a named Staff Contact who, alongside your fellow-volunteers will be there to help and guide you every step of the way. Training will be provided where you need it and reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the activities of a Parkinson’s Group, generally or in an agreed specific way.
  • Using your skills and interests to make sure people with Parkinson’s have access to friendship, support and activity.
  • Representing Parkinson’s UK in line with our values and the Volunteering Agreement.

The skills you need

  • You’re enthusiastic and committed to your Parkinson’s community.
  • You’re happy to help in line with your own skills and the needs of the Parkinson’s group.
  • You’re able to communicate clearly and cooperate successfully with a diverse range of people to get things done.

What's in it for you

  • Make a real difference; you will directly impact people living with Parkinson’s in your community, helping to provide enjoyable and enriching activities.
  • Join a friendly team; you’ll get to meet and connect with other volunteers and staff from Parkinson’s UK.
  • Increase your understanding; learn more about Parkinson’s and the support available.
  • Be part of a pioneering organisation; join an organisation committed to improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
  • Full support; we’ll give you all the training you need to get started and will be here to support you along the way.
  • Expenses covered; we’ll pay any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred as part of your volunteering, in line with our expenses policy.

Other offers great for you!
