What they need

Position Summary

The Group Precast Operations Manager will be responsible for managing and progressively modernising the main precast production yard in San Simon while overseeing precast operations in Catmon, Pilar, and Montalban.

The successful candidate must be capable of assessing existing and outdated production methods, identifying weaknesses, and implementing practical improvements without unnecessarily interrupting ongoing production.

The position requires extensive knowledge of precast-concrete production, mould and casting-bed systems, concrete technology, curing methods, lifting procedures, plant layout, equipment procurement, production planning, quality control, logistics, and installation requirements.

This is a hands-on management role requiring regular travel between all precast locations.

Key Responsibilities1. Management of the San Simon Precast Yard

  • Assume overall responsibility for production, quality, safety, maintenance, manpower, materials, storage, and dispatch at the San Simon precast yard.
  • Establish daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
  • Coordinate mould preparation, reinforcement, embedded items, casting, curing, stripping, lifting, storage, transport, and delivery.
  • Ensure that production follows approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project schedules.
  • Establish clear accountability for engineers, supervisors, quality-control personnel, mould workers, steel fixers, concrete workers, crane operators, and maintenance staff.
  1. Modernisation of Production Methods
  • Conduct a complete technical assessment of the existing factory, equipment, casting areas, and production processes.
  • Identify outdated, inefficient, unsafe, or labour-intensive production methods.
  • Recommend practical upgrades that can be introduced gradually while maintaining production.
  • Improve plant layout, material flow, mould preparation, reinforcement assembly, casting, curing, lifting, storage, and dispatch.
  • Develop a phased modernisation plan with priorities, costs, expected productivity improvements, and implementation periods.
  • Compare proposed investments against anticipated production volume and financial return.
  1. Casting Beds, Tables and Mould Systems
  • Assess existing internal and external casting beds and recommend necessary repairs, modifications, or replacement.
  • Design or recommend suitable layouts for fixed casting beds, static tables, vibrating tables, and tilting tables.
  • Understand table dimensions, loading capacities, tolerances, vibration systems, hydraulic requirements, electrical requirements, and safe lifting arrangements.
  • Prepare technical specifications for the procurement of tilting tables, vibrating tables, moulds, formwork systems, and related equipment.
  • Evaluate suppliers and technical proposals and participate in commercial negotiations.
  • Ensure that new equipment is appropriate for the required products, production volume, available space, and factory conditions.
  • Develop efficient mould matrices and casting cycles for different precast elements.
  • Standardise moulds wherever possible to improve repetition, productivity, dimensional accuracy, and cost control.
  1. Precast Production and Productivity
  • Plan production based on confirmed project requirements, approved drawings, purchase orders, delivery dates, and installation schedules.
  • Determine the production capacity of each casting bed, table, mould, production line, and plant.
  • Measure planned versus actual output by element type, mould, shift, day, week, and month.
  • Establish production cycles for façade panels, internal wall panels, stairs, columns, beams, slabs, foundations, and other precast elements.
  • Monitor labour hours, mould cycles, concrete consumption, rejection rates, repair work, and cost per element.
  • Identify bottlenecks and introduce improvements to increase output and shorten production cycles.
  • Establish realistic key performance indicators for each precast facility.
  1. Concrete Technology and Curing
  • Review and approve concrete mix designs for the required strength, durability, finish, workability, and early-strength development.
  • Understand the relationship between concrete mix design, temperature, curing time, stripping strength, lifting strength, and final strength.
  • Establish curing rules and strength matrices for different types and sizes of precast elements.
  • Assess and introduce appropriate curing systems, including:
  • Traditional water curing
  • Covered and insulated curing
  • Heated curing
  • Steam curing
  • Controlled-temperature curing
  • Accelerated early-strength concrete
  • Evaluate whether steam curing or other accelerated curing methods can safely shorten production cycles.
  • Establish the required concrete strength before stripping, tilting, lifting, transporting, and installing each type of element.
  • Ensure that curing methods do not negatively affect durability, appearance, shrinkage, cracking, or long-term concrete performance.
  • Monitor concrete temperature, slump, water-cement ratio, cube results, curing temperature, and strength development.
  1. Product Development and Engineering Coordination
  • Review precast drawings for manufacturability, repetition, lifting, transport, installation, and connection requirements.
  • Coordinate with designers and project engineers to simplify and standardise precast elements.
  • Provide practical recommendations regarding dimensions, reinforcement, embedded items, conduits, sleeves, lifting anchors, and connections.
  • Ensure that electrical and plumbing provisions are properly incorporated into precast elements before casting.
  • Support the development of new precast products and production methods.
  • Ensure that shop drawings and production drawings are approved before manufacturing begins.
  1. Multi-Site Precast Oversight
  • Oversee and coordinate precast production activities in San Simon, Catmon, Pilar, and Montalban.
  • Establish consistent production, safety, quality-control, maintenance, and reporting procedures across all locations.
  • Determine which precast elements should be produced at each plant based on capacity, mould availability, transport distance, cost, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate the sharing of moulds, equipment, technical personnel, and production resources between plants.
  • Conduct regular site visits and technical audits.
  • Consolidate production information from all locations into one group precast production plan.
  • Ensure that every plant operates as a controlled and accountable production unit.
  1. Equipment Procurement and Maintenance
  • Prepare technical specifications and investment recommendations for:
  • Tilting tables
  • Static casting tables
  • Vibrating casting tables
  • Customised moulds and formwork
  • Concrete pumps and distribution systems
  • Vibrators and vibration-control systems
  • Steam-curing equipment
  • Heating and temperature-control systems
  • Lifting beams, clamps, anchors, and rigging equipment
  • Gantry cranes and mobile cranes
  • Storage racks and transport frames
  • Reinforcement-cutting and bending equipment
  • Evaluate equipment capacity, compatibility, operating cost, maintenance requirements, spare-parts availability, and expected return on investment.
  • Establish preventive-maintenance programmes for all production and lifting equipment.
  • Monitor equipment condition, breakdowns, repair times, and availability.
  1. Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • Establish inspection and test plans covering every stage of production.
  • Ensure that mould dimensions, reinforcement, concrete cover, embedded items, openings, conduits, inserts, and lifting anchors are inspected before casting.
  • Monitor dimensional tolerances, surface finish, cracking, honeycombing, alignment, and structural compliance.
  • Establish procedures for handling non-conforming or damaged elements.
  • Ensure full traceability of every precast element from casting through delivery and installation.
  • Maintain production records, concrete test results, inspection reports, and element identification.
  1. Storage, Transport and Installation Coordination
  • Plan safe demoulding, lifting, handling, storage, loading, transport, and delivery.
  • Establish proper storage-rack and dunnage arrangements to prevent cracking, distortion, or damage.
  • Coordinate production with transport availability, crane requirements, site access, and installation schedules.
  • Ensure that lifting points, transport frames, and erection methods are considered during design and production.
  • Monitor element delivery and installation performance and address site-related production issues.
  1. Commercial and Cost Control
  • Develop production budgets and cost estimates for each plant and product type.
  • Monitor the cost of concrete, reinforcement, embedded items, moulds, labour, equipment, repairs, transport, and overheads.
  • Calculate the actual cost and production time of each precast element.
