Hamilton Aviation Engineering Tutor

The opportunity / Te Whiwhinga mahi

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become an integral part of the NMIT Aviation School at our Hamilton Campus. We are looking for 2x permanent full-time 1FTE (5 days a week @ 36 hours) Aviation and / or Avionics tutor with a broad range skills and knowledge in maintenance and engineering to teach on our Aviation engineering L3 and L4 Aeronautical Engineering programmes.

The ideal applicant would have at least 5 years practical experience as an Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer, with very good knowledge in systems that could include aviation procedures and legislation, weight and balance, aerodynamics, structures, fluid and mechanical systems, electrical fundamentals, flight controls, propulsion, avionics. Previous experience as an instructor or tutor would be advantageous.

The key responsibilities for the role are:

• Co-ordination of teaching and learning activities.
• Planning, organizing, delivering, and assessing course content. This includes theory and practical, work and study skills.
• Assessing and supporting learners to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.
• Managing learners progress towards completion of qualifications.
• Helping learners to plan for and move into the next step on their training or career pathway.
• Keeping accurate learner records and completing paperwork to a high standard.

This position would suit an Aeronautical Maintenance Engineer, who is looking to share their knowledge and experience with ākonga (students).

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Aircraft maintenance experience on aircraft with an appropriate trade qualification such as NZCAA and / or EASA and / or FAA Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's License or RNZAF / RAF Aviation Trade Training qualifications.
• Skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that align to NZCAA Fit and Proper Person criteria.
• It is desirable that you have teaching experience and an adult teaching and assessment qualification however this is not essential as full training can be provided.
