Hand Therapist

Looking for a part-time (opportunity to go full-time) Hand Therapist for an outpatient orthopedic clinic. The primary responsibility of the hand therapist is to provide direct patient care upon physician referral. The hand therapist is responsible for providing direct patient care, evaluations, consultations, and treatments in order to assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance for the upper quarter of the human body. Utilizing specialized skills in assessment and treatment, the hand therapist promotes the goals of prevention of dysfunction, restoration of function, and/or reversal of the progression of pathology in order to enhance participation in life situations for individuals with upper quarter disease or injury.

Position requires ensuring every patient receives a unique experience through a comprehensive, thorough, and customized therapy regimen with an emphasis on quality care provided in a friendly and encouraging environment.

This position is for someone who is comfortable practicing on their own, and someone not looking for a mentorship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides hand occupational therapy services including evaluations and treatment in accordance with policy and procedures of state laws and the professional code of ethics.
• Designs, implements, and modifies therapeutic interventions that may include, but are not limited to, therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy, (including soft tissue and joint mobilization); custom splint fabrication, physical agents or modalities; and patient-related education (including home exercise program).
• Responsible for the accurate and legible documentation including but not limited to: initial evaluations, SOAP notes, and flow sheets for each patient visit; reevaluation (every 30 days or 10 visits for Medicare patients whichever comes first) and the documented discharge of the patient. Documentation is completed in a timely manner consistent with all laws and regulatory requirements.
• Maintains complete and accurate billing practices. Assists front desk in maintaining insurance authorizations.
• Provides excellent customer service engaging in the use of clear, comprehensive, and frequent communication with patients, family members, or other members of the rehab team.
• Meets or communicates regularly with a variety of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and case managers to ensure successful patient treatment outcomes.
• Markets services to local healthcare providers.
• Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of therapy supplies.
• Practices in a safe manner that minimizes risk to patients, self, and others.
• Responsible for the ongoing development of clinic skills through continuing education programs, professional contacts, journal articles, and participating in professional organization
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
• Follows all HIPAA regulations as instructed.
• Performs other duties/projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Degree from accredited occupational or physical therapy program
• Currently licensed in Virginia
• Must have strong splinting skills and experience with post-surgical orthopedics.

Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
