HANDYMAN / DRIVER

CPOA is seeking a reliable, practical and service-oriented Handyman / Driver to join our team at our Constantia facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for general building maintenance and repairs, with driving and resident transport forming a secondary function of the role.

IMPORTANT – LOCATION REQUIREMENT

Applicants must reside in Constantia or the surrounding areas. Preference will be given to candidates who live within a reasonable commuting distance of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tiling, painting and glazing.
• Repair and maintain doors, locks, handles, cupboards, windows, fixtures and fittings.
• Conduct routine inspections of the facility and identify maintenance issues.
• Assist external contractors when required.
• Attend to urgent maintenance issues and assist during emergencies such as water leaks and power outages.
• Ensure the facility remains safe, functional and well maintained.

Workshop & Tools

• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop.
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained, stored and reported when faulty or unsafe.

Record-Keeping

• Complete job cards and maintenance records accurately.
• Record materials used and report outstanding maintenance requirements.
• Request required maintenance supplies timeously.

Driving & Resident Transport

• Safely transport elderly residents to medical appointments, shopping trips and excursions.
• Operate CPOA vehicles responsibly and in accordance with road safety regulations.
• Assist residents when boarding and disembarking where necessary.
• Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and roadworthy.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents or incidents immediately.
• Comply with all organisational transport policies and traffic laws.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum Grade 10 – Grade 12 preferred.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in general building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tiling and painting.
• Valid South African Driver's Licence with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labour and lift weights exceeding 15 kg.
• Clean criminal record and successful completion of pre-employment vetting.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards and safe working practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• A compassionate, patient and respectful approach when working with elderly residents.
