As the Hardware Applications Engineering Manager, you will lead and develops the Applications Engineering team across Mechanical, Electrical, and Vision disciplines, directing technical and operational execution of customer hardware solutions on Cohu platforms.

You will play an important role in:

• Technical direction. Engineering calls across all three disciplines within the framework set by Systems Architecture; Request For Quotation responses and design reviews; technical risk on every hardware program.

• Integration. Mechanical, electrical and vision subsystems come together as one solution the customer can run.

• Delivery. Resource and capacity planning against committed customer orders, schedule adherence across the program portfolio, and NPI and production readiness.

• Customers. Escalations you take personally, plus customer meetings, technical reviews and program updates — you are the face of Applications Engineering.

• Stakeholders. The primary interface to Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, Service and your Software Applications counterparts. Status and risk communicated early — no surprises.

• Your team. Hiring, mentoring and developing career paths from Engineer to Senior Staff Engineer; an organization that scales with growth without adding management layers before they are needed.

• Continuous improvement. Engineering standards and design rules, root cause analysis on quality and field issues, and design standardization that cuts rework across program.

To be successful in this role, you need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechatronics or a related discipline. Advanced degree or PMP a plus.

• 10+ years in semiconductor equipment, ATE or industrial automation, including significant experience leading multidisciplinary teams.

• 5+ years in engineering management or technical leadership, with a track record across more than one discipline.

• Customer-facing execution — capacity management and cross-functional coordination with manufacturing, quality and supply chain; delivery against committed orders, NPI and retrofit/kit-upgrade programs.

• Clear communication, stakeholder management, and willingness to travel as customer and program needs require.

• Ability to travel up to 5% of the time as required by business needs.

Backgrounds that fit: Applications, Systems, Product or Technical Program Engineering Manager, or a Mechanical / Electrical Engineering Manager with proven multidisciplinary leadership. Deep hands-on mechanical design expertise alone is not a substitute for cross-disciplinary leadership.
