Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Dundee, UK

Grade: 10

Position Summary & Key Areas Of Responsibility This rewarding position involves working as part of a team in Dundee and with other facilities and suppliers in the support, design, evaluation, and test of media handling devices used in self-service products such as ATMs (Auto-Teller Machines for the Banking Industry). A key requirement is to have 2-4 years’ mechanical design experience with a keen interest in the design of electro/mechanical systems operating under S/W control.

• Support new and existing media handling products from a mechanical perspective
• Evaluate different technologies and provide recommendations with backup analysis
• Gain experience in the Design of Mechanisms, working with tooling suppliers and parts manufacture
• Delivering cost effective designs to specification and engineering standards
• Supplier engagement and change management
• Collaborate with Engineers from different disciplines
• Hold design reviews, stress analysis, assembly tolerances, testing and problem correction CLCA
• Release work products using the approved system with all relevant documentation required to implement your design change

Qualifications A Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons 2:1 or better preferred).

• Working understanding of Mechanical design principles and technologies.
• Minimum of 3 years post-graduate related experience
• Technology awareness in the areas of:
• High speed, document feeding, transportation, sorting & stacking mechanisms.
• Autonomous, fault tolerant systems under the impact of climatic variations.
• Simulation/ FEA
• Clearly understand documentation and the ability to work solely on problems as well as within a team environment
• Strives to work to and set high work standards and be a good communicator
• Working CAD experience (ProE/Creo or Solidworks)
• An understanding of mechanical drive systems
• Understanding of plastic moulding, sheet metal fabrication design, parts manufacture and tooling.
• Drawing, dimensioning & tolerancing experience
• Stress and Tolerance analysis experience
• Mechanism design experience is an advantage
• Experience with assemblies containing PCBs/harnesses is an advantage.
• Experience with Rapid prototyping technologies
• Willing to travel, globally e.g. customer sites for support or analysis
