What they need
Hardware Engineer | 32-40 hours | Hybrid / Randstad Area
For an innovative, fast-growing European innovator in smart energy solutions based in the Randstad region, we are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to join the electronics development team.
In this role, you will take ownership of designing, prototyping, and validating physical electronics and wireless smart-grid devices used by over one million households across Europe.
Do you have 3+ years of professional experience in electronic circuit design, PCB layouts, microcontrollers (ESP32), and hardware testing, alongside a passion for sustainable consumer technology? Then this is an excellent opportunity for your career!
The Role:
You will drive physical electronic designs from initial concept to high-volume production. Working alongside embedded software, cloud, and mobile app teams under one roof, you will develop schematics, multi-layer PCB layouts, run laboratory test plans, and collaborate closely with contract manufacturers to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Design electronic circuits and PCB layouts, selecting components based on performance, cost, and availability.
- Develop hardware solutions using Espressif (ESP32) microcontrollers, RF/Wi-Fi modules, and power management circuits.
- Write and execute structured hardware test plans to validate robustness, EMC, and signal integrity.
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers (CMs/ODMs) on DFM/DFT and production testing.
- Assist with CE and RED compliance certification documentation and design reviews.
Profile:
- HBO degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Embedded Systems.
- 3+ years of professional hardware design experience (preferably in consumer electronics or IoT).
- Solid experience with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad) and schematic capture.
- Practical experience with ESP32 microcontrollers, Wi-Fi/RF design, and testing equipment.
- Conversational Dutch (B1+) and fluent English.
- Able to commute to the office in the South Holland / Randstad area (within 45 minutes) using personal transport.
Nice-to-Have:
- Exposure to CE/RED certification testing.
- Basic firmware development or C/C++ knowledge.
Terms & Benefits:
- 32 to 40 hours per week with permanent contract prospects.
- Up to €58,320 gross annual salary (up to €4,500 gross/month depending on experience).
- Profit-sharing scheme, pension contribution, and 8% holiday allowance.
- Travel allowance, professional development budget, IT equipment, and product testing perks.
- Clubhouse atmosphere: daily shared lunches, game room, snacks, and regular social events.
