Hardware Store Manager

About the Position

Looking for an experienced, motivated Hardware Store Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our locally owned hardware store.

This is a hands-on management position. We aren't looking for someone who wants to manage from an office. We're looking for someone who can lead a team, work the sales floor, improve inventory and merchandising, help with marketing, provide excellent customer service, and continuously look for ways to make the store better.

Our customers include homeowners, contractors, property owners, ranchers, and DIYers. Experience with hardware, lumber, building materials, construction, home improvement, or the trades is strongly preferred.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the store
• Lead, train, schedule, and hold employees accountable
• Establish and maintain a high standard of customer service
• Work directly with customers to identify products and solutions
• Oversee inventory, replenishment, ordering, receiving, and stocking
• Identify inventory gaps, slow-moving products, and opportunities to improve product mix
• Maintain clean, organized, well-stocked shelves and displays
• Ensure pricing, signage, merchandising, and promotions are maintained
• Help drive sales and improve the overall customer experience
• Monitor store performance and communicate issues and opportunities to ownership
• Resolve customer concerns professionally
• Oversee opening/closing procedures and cash-handling controls
• Coordinate store services and daily operational needs
• Maintain a safe, professional, and productive workplace
• Work alongside the team during busy periods and wherever help is needed

What We're Looking For

• Previous retail management, assistant management, or department leadership experience
• Hardware, lumber, building materials, home improvement, construction, or trade experience strongly preferred
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach employees and hold people accountable
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Experience with inventory management and purchasing is preferred
• Comfortable learning and using POS and inventory-management systems
• Ability to prioritize and make decisions without constant direction
• Dependable with consistent attendance
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to lift and handle products commonly found in a hardware and building-materials environment

This position requires someone who can balance people, inventory, merchandising, customer service, and sales while treating the success of the store like it matters personally.

Compensation & Schedule

$28–$34 per hour, depending on experience

Performance bonus opportunity based on store results

Full-time position. Availability to work a combination of weekdays and weekends based on store needs is required.

Candidates with direct hardware, lumber, building-materials, construction, or home-improvement experience will receive strong consideration.

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
