Hardware Test Automation Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Hardware Test Automation Engineer to develop and maintain software that supports hardware validation, verification, and testing. You will work closely with validation engineers to automate test execution, streamline data analysis, and improve the reliability and efficiency of the testing workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with validation engineers to automate tests and data analysis for verification and validation (V&V) activities.
• Build and extend Python-based test frameworks and libraries for device control, test orchestration, and data analysis.
• Integrate automated tests into existing and new CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop, package, and deploy test software across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments.
• Develop and maintain device and instrument drivers (ADB, serial/UART, SCPI/VISA, and DAQs).
• Integrate test stations and devices under test (DUTs) into a shared device farm for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
• Support the setup and bring-up of test equipment and lab instruments.
• Define software interfaces for test fixtures and collaborate with external vendors on integration and bring-up.
• Build and maintain data pipelines to transfer large volumes of test results and image data from lab stations to cloud storage and queryable databases.
• Develop dashboards and alerts to monitor product metrics, test station health, and data pipeline performance.
• Write maintainable, unit-tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Develop and extend AI-powered tools, including agents and reusable skills, to improve development and validation workflows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external partners as needed.
• Occasional business travel to contract manufacturers (CMs) in China may be required (approximately 5–10%).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience, including hardware or system test automation.
• Strong Python programming skills, with experience applying software engineering best practices.
• Experience working with established codebases, build systems, and CI pipelines, including contributing through code reviews.
• Hands-on experience automating lab instruments or test equipment.
• Experience analyzing test data using tools such as pandas and Matplotlib, or querying data directly with SQL.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, with the ability to participate in code reviews, design discussions, and collaboration with distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with verification and validation (V&V) for consumer electronics.
• Experience working in large monorepositories and build systems such as Bazel.
• Familiarity with Android test automation using ADB (Android Debug Bridge).
• Experience building automated data pipelines and dashboards.
• Experience designing Python libraries or service APIs (e.g., gRPC/protobuf).
• Familiarity with automating motion stages, robotic fixtures, or camera-based measurement systems.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and system block diagrams.
• Experience building device farms or CI infrastructure for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex).
• Professional working proficiency in Mandarin to collaborate with manufacturing partners in China.
