Head Barista

About the role

Wangsa Holdings Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Barista to lead our coffee operations at our venue in Kuala Lumpur City Centre. This is a full-time position that offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase your expertise in coffee preparation, customer service excellence and team leadership. As Head Barista, you will be at the heart of our hospitality operation, ensuring every customer enjoys an exceptional coffee experience whilst managing and mentoring our barista team to deliver consistent quality and outstanding service.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based and specialty coffee beverages with precision and creativity
• Lead, train and mentor junior barista staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in coffee craftsmanship
• Manage coffee station operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance and stock ordering
• Maintain impeccable hygiene and safety standards in accordance with health and food safety regulations
• Deliver exceptional customer service by engaging with guests, taking orders and responding to customer feedback with professionalism and warmth
• Develop and execute coffee tasting events, new menu items and promotional activities to enhance customer engagement
• Monitor coffee quality consistency and implement quality control measures across all beverages
• Collaborate with management to optimise operational efficiency and contribute to revenue targets
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance on espresso machines and coffee equipment

What we're looking for

• Minimum 3-5 years of professional barista experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role
• Advanced knowledge of coffee varieties, brewing methods, extraction techniques and flavour profiles
• Certified barista qualification or equivalent professional certification (SCA or similar recognised credential preferred)
• Exceptional latte art skills and the ability to execute specialty coffee beverages consistently
• Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate, train and develop team members effectively
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks and maintain composure during peak service periods
• Knowledge of point-of-sale systems and basic inventory management
• Passion for coffee culture and commitment to staying current with industry trends and innovations
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required
