Head Chef

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager of The Hangar, you'll lead the kitchen day to day, from menu development and ordering to rostering, training and food safety. You'll set the standard on every plate that leaves the pass and build a kitchen culture people want to be part of.

Key responsibilities

• Design and cost seasonal menus that reflect The Hangar's style and hit GP targets
• Lead, train and mentor a team of chefs, cooks and kitchen hands
• Manage ordering, stock control, supplier relationships and waste
• Build rosters and manage labour costs within budget
• Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and health and safety compliance, including your Food Control Plan
• Work closely with front-of-house to deliver a seamless guest experience, including functions and events

About you

• Proven experience as a Head Chef or strong Sous Chef ready to step up in a high-volume kitchen
• Sound knowledge of the Food Act 2014 and Food Control Plan requirements
• Solid grasp of food costing, menu engineering and kitchen budgets
• Calm, positive leadership under pressure and a passion for developing people
• Creativity, attention to detail and a love of fresh, seasonal produce
• The right to work in New Zealand
• Must be available all December 2026 & January 2027
