Job Overview

The Oligarch is looking for a passionate, creative and motivated Head Chef to lead our kitchen team in Milton Keynes.

We are seeking someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional food, maintaining high standards and creating a memorable dining experience for every guest.

As Head Chef, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the kitchen, combining hands-on cooking with effective leadership, staff organisation and operational planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and supervise the kitchen team, maintaining a positive, organised and professional working environment.
• Prepare and manage staff rotas, ensuring appropriate kitchen coverage, efficient staffing levels and smooth operations throughout the week.
• Oversee daily food preparation, cooking and presentation to ensure consistently high standards.
• Maintain excellent food quality, presentation and consistency across all dishes.
• Coordinate kitchen workflows, delegate responsibilities and ensure efficient service during busy periods.
• Manage stock control, ordering, inventory and food costs while minimising waste.
• Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety regulations.
• Work closely with the front-of-house team and management to deliver a seamless dining experience.
• Contribute ideas towards menu development, seasonal specials and improvements to the food offering.
• Train, support and develop kitchen staff, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen at all times.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen is desirable, ideally in a senior chef or supervisory role.
• A genuine passion for cooking, food quality and presentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and team management skills.
• Good organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan staff rotas and coordinate kitchen operations.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• A sound understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
• Ability to manage stock, minimise waste and maintain operational efficiency.
• A proactive, dependable and professional approach.
• Creativity, initiative and a willingness to contribute new ideas.
