What they need
Job Summary
We’re an independent, community-focused café-restaurant in Bulwell, Nottingham, known for honest, well-cooked food and a warm, friendly atmosphere. During the week, we serve homemade classics, while weekends are for Sunday lunches, brunches, and themed food nights.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced full-time Head Chef / Kitchen Manager to take ownership of our kitchen and help us develop the food side of the business.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys cooking, running an organised kitchen, and bringing fresh ideas to the table. You’ll work closely with the owners, with plenty of opportunity to make the kitchen your own.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Prepare and serve consistently good, home-style food
- Manage stock ordering, deliveries, storage, rotation, and waste
- Keep the kitchen clean, safe, organised, and compliant with food hygiene requirements
- Work with the owners to review and improve the menu, including seasonal dishes and themed food nights
- Listen to customer feedback and share ideas with the owners and leadership team
- Support the kitchen team and work closely with front of house to ensure smooth service
- Maintain high standards of food quality, portioning, and presentation
Skills
- Experience as a Head Chef, Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or in a similar senior kitchen role
- Strong cooking skills and experience in a busy café, restaurant, pub, or hospitality kitchen
- Experience with stock ordering, rotation, waste management, and food-cost control
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, allergens, and health and safety requirements
- A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is required or must be obtained before starting; Level 3 would be an advantage
About You
- Confident, reliable, and a strong communicator
- Flexible and enthusiastic about all aspects of a busy, growing café-restaurant
- Passionate about honest, tasty food and great community service
