3. Experience leading enterprise engagements and forward-deployed engineering (FDE) teams in high-stakes environments
4. Experience building and operating production agentic AI systems (voice agents, multimodal, LangChain, LangGraph)

What we're looking for:

We are looking for a Head of Applied AI Engineering with 10+ years of experience to build and lead the client's new Applied AI (forward-deployed engineering) group. We need a hands-on, entrepreneurial player-coach with executive presence who can show what a great FDE looks like while growing a large team. This person will help take a profitable, $1.6B healthcare AI company from $100M+ to $500M in revenue.

What will you be doing?

• Spend about 75% of your time as a hands-on builder, setting the standard for how clients' forward-deployed engineers work
• Build agentic AI and LLM systems, such as voice agents and multimodal conversational systems for scheduling and routing, that plug into client enterprise systems
• Ship predictive "precision targeting" models on the client's 1.2 PB of proprietary data, for use cases like patient recruitment for Phase II/III drug trials
• Spend about 25% of your time leading the team: hiring, firing, motivating, and mentoring a fast-growing group of Applied AI Engineers
• Serve as the technical executive for strategic enterprise healthcare clients and support pre-sales and expansion deals

Key Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on engineering experience, including at least a couple of years managing people
• Strong data science and ML background, with experience putting AI/ML and agentic systems into production (Python, TypeScript/Node, LangChain/LangGraph, AWS)
• Experience in healthcare, health insurance, health systems, life sciences, or pharma
• Entrepreneurial startup background, ideally with long tenure through a company's growth and exposure to scaling past $100M in revenue
• Executive presence and commercial skills: comfortable leading a boardroom while staying humble and low-ego
