OVERVIEW

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineering professional to lead the engineering function of a renewable energy and biochar production facility in Monaragala.

The facility converts agricultural residues into biochar and generates electricity through syngas. The role will have overall responsibility for the electrical systems supporting a 24/7 power generation and production environment, while leading the engineering team and ensuring safe and reliable plant operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and manage electrical engineering activities across the renewable energy facility.
• Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of electrical systems within the plant.
• Manage generators, power distribution, electrical equipment and related systems.
• Oversee preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and breakdown management.
• Manage generator synchronisation, load sharing and electrical changeover processes.
• Develop and maintain safe operating procedures for grid, diesel and syngas generation modes.
• Liaise with CEB regarding electrical documentation, approvals and permits.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety, isolation and permit-to-work requirements.
• Lead and develop the engineering team.
• Support commissioning, plant expansion and future renewable energy facilities.
• Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure continuous plant operation.

PRE-REQUISITES

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronic Engineering is mandatory.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial engineering experience.
• Strong electrical engineering and power-generation exposure.
• Practical experience with generators, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and overload management.
• Understanding of generator synchronisation and load sharing.
• Experience with electrical changeover systems and power distribution.
• Experience liaising with CEB on electrical documentation, approvals and permitting.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety and compliance.
• Renewable energy experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in biomass, syngas, gas-engine generators or power generation will be a strong advantage.
• Exposure to PLC programming, DEIF/Deep Sea controllers or commissioning will be an added advantage.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Candidates from Monaragala or surrounding areas will be strongly preferred.
• Ability to join at short notice will be an advantage.
