Director of Embedded Software & Autonomy Systems

Location: Remote (US) | Salary: $240,000 – $280,000 + equity | Travel: Occasional (site visits, customer engagement)

Our client is a fast-growing autonomy technology company developing AI-driven perception and control systems for the automotive industry, with production programs targeting next-generation in-vehicle compute platforms. The company partners directly with major manufacturers on multi-year development programs and is scaling its embedded software organization to support a rapid, safety-critical release cadence.

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader to own embedded software and autonomy systems delivery — leading a team through safety certification, real-time systems architecture, and production deployment on automotive-grade hardware. You'll report into senior engineering leadership with direct executive visibility, and act as the technical interface with manufacturing and industry partners.

What You'll Do

• Own safety certification programs for regulated, safety-critical automotive or robotics software, from requirements decomposition through independent audit defense
• Establish and evolve verification, static analysis, and release infrastructure to support frequent, high-confidence production releases
• Lead architecture and delivery of embedded software on resource-constrained, automotive-grade compute platforms
• Drive performance optimization for perception or autonomy workloads on GPU-accelerated hardware
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing embedded engineering team (director-level scope)
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact with manufacturing and enterprise customers on requirements, deliverables, and integration

What You'll Bring

• 10+ years of embedded software experience, including 5+ years leading safety-critical or regulated-industry certification programs
• Strong C/C++ background with real-time systems experience
• Embedded Linux experience on constrained, automotive- or robotics-grade hardware
• Track record of director-level team leadership (hiring, performance management, multi-site or cross-functional teams)
• Experience working directly with manufacturing or enterprise customers on technical delivery
• Must be a US Citizen
• Comfortable with occasional travel for customer/site engagement
