Head of Engineering (Barcelona - Spain)

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead our new office, which will grow to ~60 people this year, including ~30 in tech under your management. Our fast-growing French fintech scale-up already has 300+ employees worldwide.

You will define the technical vision for the office, oversee multi-team roadmaps, and build a high-performing, autonomous engineering organization. You will drive architecture, reliability, scalable systems, and delivery excellence, while fostering collaboration with Product, Design, Data, and Customer-facing teams.

Key missions:

• Set engineering standards, streamline architecture, reduce technical debt, and ensure secure, observable systems.

• Lead delivery across squads, prioritize initiatives, and communicate progress and trade-offs to stakeholders.

• Build and develop the local tech team, hire talent, define growth paths, and create a culture of mentoring, feedback, and continuous improvement.

• Improve operational excellence: define SLOs, reduce incidents, optimize developer experience, and implement end-to-end observability.

  What we are looking for :
  

• 8–12 years in software engineering with increasing responsibility, 3–5 years managing engineering teams (5+ people), including managing managers (Team Leads/EMs).

• Strong command of a modern stack: backend (TypeScript/Node), frontend (TypeScript/React), cloud (AWS/GCP).

• Earns credibility with ICs and Team Leads through sound technical judgment and clarity of intent.

• Excellent stakeholder management, aligns divergent interests and prioritizes objectively

• Scale‑up background (50–500 people), regulated environments, payments/accounting/e‑invoicing/compliance exposure.

• Experience modernizing architecture (domain decomposition, event‑driven, data contracts) and pragmatic AI adoption.

• AI-first mindset (product & operations).
