Head of Engineering

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to build and lead the next stage of our engineering organization.

This is not a role for someone who wants to be the best programmer in the room or personally make every architectural decision.

We are looking for a leader who can build an engineering organization where talented people consistently create great software together.

You will lead an engineering organization of approximately 20 engineers across three teams, working through experienced Team Leads. Your job will be to strengthen those leaders, improve the way Engineering operates, raise engineering quality and predictability, and build an organization capable of supporting our continued growth and international expansion.

What you will own

You will have end-to-end responsibility for the engineering organization and its capabilities , including:

• Engineering organization, structure and operating model
• Development and coaching of Team Leads
• Engineering hiring, succession and capability development
• Engineering capacity planning and resource allocation
• Engineering standards, practices and quality
• Technology landscape and architecture governance
• Strategic technology and Build vs. Buy decisions
• Engineering delivery commitments and risk escalation
• Engineering budget and investment planning
• Engineering culture

You will work closely with the CEO, Product, Business Analysis and Delivery organizations to turn business and product priorities into technically sustainable, realistic engineering plans.

Product decides what and why we build .

Engineering owns how we build it, our capacity, our commitments and long-term technical sustainability .

What we are looking forLeadership experience

You have:

• Proven experience leading software engineering organizations through Team Leads, Engineering Managers or comparable first-line leaders.
• A track record of developing strong technical people into stronger leaders.
• Experience creating alignment across multiple engineering teams.
• Improved engineering culture, ownership and accountability in a previous organization.
• The confidence to make difficult organizational and people decisions when necessary.

Engineering background

You have:

• A strong technical background and enough technical credibility to challenge architectural decisions and contribute to technology strategy.
• Experience balancing technical excellence with business priorities and delivery commitments.
• A track record of improving engineering quality and development practices.
• Experience making strategic technology decisions, including technology selection and Build vs. Buy decisions.

We do not expect you to personally design every system, write the most code or make every technical decision.

Organizational experience

You have experience with:

• Hiring and growing engineering teams.
• Resource planning and capacity management.
• Scaling an engineering organization.
• Working closely with Product and business stakeholders.
• Communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical leaders.

Fluent Hungarian and professional working proficiency in English are required.

It would be particularly valuable if you have

• Worked in a B2B software product company.
• Led Engineering through organizational transformation or significant growth.
• Helped build an engineering organization that operates internationally.
• Worked closely with Product, Delivery and customer-facing organizations.
• Managed engineering budgets and technology investments.

Experience in regulated industries, AI-enabled software development, distributed engineering organizations, or introducing engineering metrics and continuous improvement practices would be an additional advantage.
