Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As the Head of IT, you’ll play a key role in the development and delivery of the ALS’s IT strategy, ensuring secure, reliable, and effective technology systems support the organisation’s strategic goals. The role drives digital transformation and builds the technology capabilities needed to deliver high-quality legal and allied professional services across NSW and the ACT. Each day, you will:

  • Develop and deliver IT strategy, aligning technology investments with organisational goals.
  • Oversee business applications, Microsoft 365, infrastructure, and day-to-day IT service delivery.
  • Manage cybersecurity, IT risks, data protection, compliance, and business continuity.
  • Manage technology vendors, supplier relationships, contracts, budgets, and service agreements.
  • Lead and develop the IT team, supporting performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with senior leaders and staff to deliver technology solutions that strengthen organisational effectiveness.

Your Story & Strengths
You are an experienced IT leader who combines strategic thinking with strong technical expertise and a practical, solutions-focused approach. You understand how secure, reliable technology supports organisational success and respect the cultural values and community-controlled nature of the ALS. Key strengths include:

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with at least 7 years’ experience leading an IT team.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft 365, Power Platform and Fabric, as well as enterprise applications, cloud platforms and system integration.
  • Proven ability to lead technology projects, digital transformation initiatives and IT operations in a lean environment.
  • Strong experience in vendor management, contract negotiations, budgets, and service level agreements.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship-building skills across executive and operational teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and respect for Aboriginal cultures, values, and practices, with a commitment to culturally safe organisational practices.

Our Journey Together
At ALS, you’ll find a career that truly matters, one where your work has purpose and impact every day. We are proud to offer a supportive and rewarding environment with a range of generous benefits, including:

  • Not-for-profit salary packaging to reduce your tax burden, which means you get to keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket.
  • Annual leave loading of 17.5%, ensuring that you are rewarded for your time off and can enjoy a well-deserved break.
  • Career and professional development opportunities.

Caring for Community & You
To protect the communities we serve, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of safe recruitment practices. Therefore, it is essential that candidates either possess or have the capacity to obtain a current and valid National Police Check and Working with Children (NSW) for this role.

ALS is committed to equal opportunity and cultural safety in recruitment for all candidates. If you identify as a person with a disability and/or need any adjustments or support throughout the recruitment process, please contact our Talent Team at [email protected] - we will work with you to ensure an accessible and supportive experience.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
